CURRENT OPENING : There are currently multiple part-time openings (10 months, 20 to 32.5 hours per week). Salary placement will be on Range 10 of the CSEA Salary Schedule "B." Initial salary placement for new employees is customarily at step 1 ($18.34 per hour) of this salary range.

Essential Duties
THE POSITION
Assists a teacher in a Child Development Center in conducting instructional activities, providing services to children newborn to fifth grade.
Minimum Qualifications
Education :
Graduation from high school or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency, and completion of a minimum of 12 semester units of course work in early childhood education or child development (excluding field work), including at least one course of at least three semester units in each of the following core areas :
Child, family, and community, or child and family relations
Programs / curriculum
Experience :
Six months paid or unpaid experience working with and / or caring for children from newborn to fifth grade.
Special :
Successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination. Absence of back problems or any other physical impairments that might preclude the performance of physical labor or lifting must be evident.
Some positions in this classification require the ability to speak, read, and write a second language in addition to English.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION : Incumbents must apply for and obtain an Associate Teacher Permit through the Commission on Teacher Credentialing. In addition, incumbents must complete 15 additional units of coursework in early childhood education or child development and obtain the renewal of the required Associate Teacher Permit. Upon completion of the renewal, incumbents are required to maintain the Associate Teacher Permit. Fees related to obtaining and renewing the Associate Teacher Permit are at the employee's expense.
In order to obtain the renewal of Associate Teacher Permit, incumbents have to be enrolled in an accredited institution leading to an Associate Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or related field. By the end of the ten year period, the incumbent must meet the requirements for the Child Development Teacher Permit. Requirements mandated by U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, Office of Head Start.
Ideal candidates will have

Symptoms of common childhood illnesses such as colds, flu, diarrhea, chicken pox.

Simple record keeping.
Basic housekeeping methods.
Developmentally appropriate practices with children.
Objective observations of children.
Ability to :
Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
Determine needs of newborn to fifth-grade children.
Perform physical labor, including lifting children to facilitate health or mobility needs.
Organize and develop educational and recreational activities.
Perform simple routine clerical duties.
Attend first aid and CPR annual training.
Operate simple office machines.
COVID Vaccine Requirement
Per Board policy, employees are allowed on District campuses or facilities only if they are fully vaccinated. This resolution applies to all applicants upon hire. General Information
The screening process for this position, which may be subject to modification, will include some form of an application screening, initial screening of qualifications, documentation / certification screening, and in some instances supplemental application screening. A passing score must be attained on each portion of the exam to advance to the next stage and ultimate placement on the eligibility list, which depending on the classification, may be in force for six months or one year.

Health Benefits
For positions 35 hours or more per week the District contributes $12,900 (subject to change) toward annual premium for medical, dental, vision and life insurance coverage. Paid Sick Leave
Every regular classified employee, probationary or permanent, can earn paid sick leave credit(s) based on one day for each month in which such employees are in a paid status with the District. Earned, but unused sick leave can accumulate without limit. Full-time classified employees (those who work 8 hours per day, 5 days per week and 12 months per year) will normally earn twelve (12) days of sick leave credit(s) during each fiscal year.
