What are the responsibilities and job description for the Material Handler position at Haggerty Logistics?
JOB/TASK FUNCTIONS:
The following job/task functions have been identified as the core functions of this position. However, the supervisor or manager may assign additional duties associated with this position.
- Provide instruction and guidance in the proper use of company owned equipment
- Acts as a liaison between company and new customers
- Acts as a role model; motivates associates to do a good job and maintain a positive attitude
- Moves levers and presses pedals to drive truck and control movement of lifting apparatus.
- Positions forks, lifting platform transports load to designated area.
- Unloads and stacks material by raising and lowering lifting device.
- Inventories materials on work floor.
- Weighs materials or products and records weight on tags, labels, or production schedules.
- Loads or unloads materials onto or off pallets, skids or lifting device.
- Loads and unloads customer freight and empty containers.
- Responsible for tagging incoming/outgoing freight.
- Prepares orders/ Stages orders for delivery.
- Scans orders into system.
- Organizes materials in department as necessary.
- Lubricates truck, recharges batteries, fills fuel tank or replaces liquefied gas tank.
- Completes safety and operational checks daily.
- Follows and performs FIFO procedures
- Performs all duties and operates machinery & equipment according to MIOSHA standards and company procedures using required safety equipment (gloves, sleeves, ear plugs, etc.).
- Help in departmental operation wherever necessary.
- Punctual and regular attendance is required.
- Able and willing to work any shift assigned.
- Keeps work areas clean and orderly.
- Participates in continuous improvement activities.
- Assumes other duties as directed by supervisor.

Language Skills:
Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Required Experience
Education and/or Experience:
High school Diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education or experience.
