What are the responsibilities and job description for the Heavy Equipment Operator for Underground (Wet) Utilities position at Haley Contracting (Non-Union)?
Experienced Operator of large excavator, backhoe and/or mini excavator for trenching and installation of wet utilities on commercial and industrial projects. Operator evaluates each respective project to be completed along with identifying any possible hazards related to pipeline to be installed and/or any other existing underground utilities; makes recommendations as to heavy equipment requirements. Will be responsible for transport of heavy loads, equipment, and/or material. Primary duties will be digging of trenches, backfilling, and/or land leveling. Dependent on assignment, provides direction to underground laborer assisting with work.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
- Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, adaptabilities, limitations, and safety precautions of the equipment to which assignment is made.
- Ability to function successfully in a variety of outside weather conditions including cold, wet, hot and humid conditions.
- Knowledge and skills relating to traffic regulations and safe driving practices.
- Skill in the care and safe operation of assigned equipment.
- Knowledge of the potential hazards and ability to mitigate the hazards involved in the use of heavy equipment and the necessary safety precautions to be taken in operation.
- Ability to carry out oral and/or written instructions in a cooperative, efficient and team focused manner.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective, cooperative and team focused working relationships with fellow team members, leadership and the general public.
- Physical strength and ability to perform strenuous physical tasks including using hand tools.
Must have a valid Driver's License and clean drivers record. Preferred Class A driver's license.
Background and/or drug screening may be required.
