The Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs (VPASA) is the chief academic and student services officer of the College, responsible for providing strategic leadership and vision to ensure the delivery of high-quality academic programs and student support services. The VPASA plays a critical role in advancing the institution’s mission, fostering student success, and promoting equity and inclusion across all areas of the College.
Primary Purpose of this Position
The VPASA is responsible for all areas of instruction and as the College’s chief academic officer, provides leadership, planning, development, and management of academic programming for credit learning. Working in collaboration with the other senior administrators, the VPASA is responsible for ensuring that the College’s strategic plan as it relates to instruction is implemented appropriately; fosters quality instruction; and develops and manages budgets supporting all functions of academic & student affairs. The VPASA works with the institution’s learning partners in the Roanoke Valley Region as well as the North Carolina Community Colleges System to develop, where possible, seamless credit curricular pathways to support student success. The VPASA is charged with ensuring that all academic & student affairs personnel engage in professional development that leads to individual, instructional, and support excellence.
Academic Leadership
Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of academic programs to ensure alignment with institutional goals, workforce needs, and transfer opportunities; Lead initiatives to maintain academic excellence, including accreditation processes, program reviews, and curriculum development; Collaborate with faculty to support innovative teaching practices and professional development opportunities.
Student Affairs Leadership
Direct the delivery of comprehensive student support services, including admissions, advising, financial aid, counseling, student life, and career services; Ensure that all student services are designed to promote access, retention, and student success; Foster a student-centered environment that emphasizes equity, inclusion, and engagement.
Strategic Planning and Collaboration
Serve as a member of the senior leadership team, contributing to the development and execution of the College’s strategic plan; Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to advance partnerships that support student learning, workforce development, and community engagement; Work closely with institutional research to use data to inform decision-making and improve outcomes.
Operational Oversight
Supervise the Dean of Academic Affairs, Dean of Student Affairs, Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness, Director of the Academic Success Center, and other direct reports, ensuring accountability and alignment with institutional priorities; Develop and manage budgets for academic and student affairs, ensuring effective use of resources; Oversee compliance with federal, state, and accreditor regulations related to academic and student services.
Qualifications Required :
Experience required at the Assistant Vice President / Dean level which should include major administrative higher education experience and positive impact on the institution, community, and workforce. Effective supervision, communication skills, and the ability to relate to all college constituents. Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution is required.
Preferred Qualifications :
At least 2 years of experience serving as a senior administrator in these areas.

What are the Physical Requirements of job?
Frequently requires standing, sitting, and walking. Occasionally requires lifting (10-15 pounds), repetitious finger and wrist movement, and reaching both high and low. Constantly requires speaking clearly, hearing, and seeing.

Generally, this employee must be able to operate office equipment such as personal computer, fax machine, photocopier, etc. This employee must be able to operate an automobile, as the ability to drive and travel is an expected part of the job.
