IT Systems Engineer I
The Systems Engineer is responsible for four different areas: production support, customer support, project support and innovation. Production support consists of resolving any and all end user device related issues. Customer support as it relates to the escalation of end user issues that require and advanced level of IT support. Project support as it relates to organizing and managing resources as assigned by the corresponding Project Manager, in such a way that all the work required to complete the project are within the agreed upon defined scope, time and cost constraints. Developing innovative uses of existing or emerging technologies for the betterment of Halifax Health.
- Associates degree in an IT related field or equivalent is preferred
- CompTIA Server or Microsoft certifications preferred
- Three (3) years in PC support and one (1) year working in a Windows Server/Active Directory environment preferred
- Comprehensive knowledge of Windows 10/11, Server 2019 , and various Linux OSs
- Experience with Intune/MECM preferred with an understanding of enterprise device management
- Experience with software distribution/package development
- Understanding of networking concepts in an enterprise environment
- Experience managing VDI environments with Citrix XenApp/XenDesktop preferred
- In-depth knowledge of integrating and migrating large scale mission critical virtual server environments
- Strong knowledge of PC/MAC hardware and software
- Ability to work effectively within a team and demonstrate leadership
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong customer service skills and experience
- Daily proactive monitoring and logging of system activity. This includes disk space, memory utilization, CPU utilization, and all related logs and activity-based reporting. Respond proactively to suspected issues, document issues within ticketing system, analyze, recommend and execute tasks to handles all identified and suspected issues.
- Work with users to develop solutions for user-reported issues, coordinate required changes to systems, create and maintain system documentation related to day to day problems, including backup and recovery.
- Maintain system software levels by applying necessary and consistent software patches to Operating Systems and associated components to ensure the systems are operating at optimal level and are secured against known vulnerabilities. Understand and be aware of all newly released documentation regarding vulnerabilities and symptoms of potential threats to providing service to the user community.
- Participate in an on call rotation providing timely support after hours.
- Participate in scheduled maintenance windows outside of regular business hours.
- Perform related duties as required.
