School Guidance Counselor
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated School Guidance Counselor to provide on-site counseling to students and assist in helping them make informed decisions about their academic and career goals.
Academy Mission:
The Academies mission is to provide a quality education that focuses on a core curriculum and international cultures, including the study of language. We strive to integrate diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds into our college-preparatory program, serving families in the Greater Detroit area.
Responsibilities:
- Provides individual and group counseling regarding personal, peer or family problems to K-12 students referred for help.
- Assists students in evaluating their abilities, interests, talents, and personality characteristics to develop realistic academic and career goals.
- Advises middle and high school students on college majors, admission requirements, entrance exams, and financial aid, as well as trade or technical schools and apprenticeship programs.
- Provides behavioral management consultation and planning, including classroom and recess observation, monitoring, and follow-up.
- Consults with the school social worker to design activities that improve and support the emotional, behavioral, and social skills development of students.
- Provides support and consultation to school staff as needed, participating as a member of the school Building Guidance Team, particularly for students with special needs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- A Master's Degree in School Counseling is required.
- A Michigan Teaching Certification with a School Counselor endorsement is also required.
- Experience in individual, group, and family counseling with adolescents is essential.
- Counseling experience must be in an educational setting.
- Excellent organization, planning, professionalism, and time management skills are necessary.
- Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office software are required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills, are essential.
- Experience working in culturally diverse settings is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment is necessary.
- Flexible, open-minded, self-driven team members are encouraged to apply.
- Autorization to work in the US is required.
