Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Assistant Vice President of Finance and oversight of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Senior Accountant will provide support in areas of general accounting functions, financial-statement variance analysis, budget preparation, and contract fiscal performance analysis.
Essential Functions
- Provide support to Assistant Vice President of Finance in month-end closing process, including general-ledger account analysis and preparation of adjusting journal entries
- Analyze and investigate budget/actual variances on monthly financial reports, and prepare explanations/corrections as appropriate
- Maintain and prepare various contract analyses for internal and external reporting on agency contracts
- Prepare monthly invoices for cost-reimbursement contracts
- Prepare periodic billing and fiscal performance reporting for the Department of Mental Health contract, including reconciliation with Exym (E.H.R.S) records, monthly management reports data, and utilization and projection analytics
- Support CFO and Assistant Vice President of Finance in annual budget process (meet with program managers, prepare/update budget spreadsheets)
- Participate and assist in agency financial audits (prepare schedules, provide requested documents)
- Provide backup support to other department functions (A/R, A/P, Payroll) as needed
- Works to promote and support justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion at all levels in the organization.

- Actively participate in quality improvement project.
The Senior Accountant will take on special projects or additional duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice President of Finance and the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
Competency Requirements
-Ability to speak, read, write and understand English
-Ability to work effectively as a member a team
-Must have excellent oral and written communication skills -Must demonstrate intermediate to advanced computer skills
-Must demonstrate understanding of transaction flows from sub ledgers to general ledger to financial statements
-Must demonstrate understanding of financial reporting and audits
-Must demonstrate ability to exercise sound judgment and complex decision making
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S. or B.A.), Accounting or Finance major preferred
- 3-5 years accounting-department experience required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or Microsoft 365 applications (Excel/Word/Teams; intermediate/advanced Excel skills highly desirable (PivotTables, VLOOKUPs, etc.)
- Experience with MIP Accounting software desirable
- Experience in a nonprofit setting preferred
- Experience/knowledge of LA County Contracts desirable.
Certifications/Licenses
-Valid CA driver’s license

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of a Senior Accountant, the employee is frequently required to sit, and use their fingers to manipulate a keyboard or writing instrument. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, bend, and kneel. The employee is rarely required to run, drive, or lift objects heavier than ten pounds.
Work Environment
The work environment is primarily indoors. The noise level varies from quiet to moderate. This position has the option of a hybrid schedule, with days in the office to be determined by department needs.
