Overview
There is an immediate opening for a Heavy Equipment Operator in the Hamilton County Highway Department. Incumbents in this position are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of one or more types of specialized heavy automobile equipment in highway maintenance or construction projects.
Responsibilities
- Greater skill is required in the operation of heavy equipment than for other types of equipment and there is greater responsibility for the safety of others.
- Additional responsibility is involved for making minor repairs to equipment and for ordinary servicing including minor welding, fabrication and auto bodywork.
- Employee may be required to perform a variety of specialized tasks essential to the effectiveness of the department providing services, special functions including the repair of equipment which is incidental to the primary responsibilities of this employee.
The work is performed under general supervision. May also work as a Motor Equipment Operator or Laborer.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications: One year of experience in the operation of specialized heavy motor equipment; or Two years experience in the operation of any type of automotive equipment; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements: Possession of a valid New York State Commercial Driver’s License Class C minimum; possession of license at time of appointment.
Salary commensurate with years of experience. This is a full-time position with an excellent benefits package.
