The Human Services career cluster prepares learners for postsecondary credentials and careers in occupations that support the everyday functioning of society and individual well-being, including careers in social work, counseling, dietetics and nutrition, athletic training, cosmetology, aesthetics, and barbering. 

All courses in the Cosmetology program of study have been revised to address and prepare students for postsecondary and industry standards. Cosmetology is designed to prepare students for careers in cosmetology by developing an understanding of efficient and safe work practices, salon business concepts and operations, hair techniques and chemical services, facial and skin care procedures and state board theoretical practical application. Laboratory facilities and experiences simulate those found in the cosmetology industry.

Hamilton County Schools is committed to graduating all students ready for college, career and community.  All students at our comprehensive high schools are enrolled in a Future Ready Institute - a CTE pathway leading to industry certification.  A wall-to-wall Future Ready school, Brainerd’s three Future Ready Institutes (Institute of Aviation, Institute of Entrepreneurship, and the Institute of Law, First Responders, and Forensic Science) provide students with opportunities to gain experience in the fields of aviation, automotive technology, business, cosmetology, criminal justice, culinary arts, and emergency services. Plan, deliver and assess effective instruction that is tightly aligned with State standards.

• Designs lessons based on best practices with clear learning targets and measurable goals aligned with State standards and/or unit outcomes. Frequently plans collaboratively with colleagues.
• Conveys high expectations while using multiple effective strategies, materials, and classroom practices that involve and motivate students while differentiating instruction to meet students’ needs.

Knowledge/Education/Experience:

• Minimum Education Requirements: High School diploma  and completion of cosmetology instructor.
• Minimum Occupational Work Experience: Five years of full time work experience out of the past eight years.
• Example Qualifying Areas/Occupations: Cosmetologist and Barber
• Industry Certification: Tennessee Cosmetology Instructor license
• Hold an Occupational Teaching license with Endorsement: (781) Cosmetology or (561) Previous Endorsement

Skills/Qualifications:

• Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills to deal effectively with students, educators, parents, and community members.  
• Demonstrate excellent planning, organizational, problem-solving, decision-making, and time management skills.

Compensation:
Salary is based on a combination of relevant education and experience.
Salary Scale
