Multi-Classroom Leader (Pool Posting)

Overview

The multi-classroom leader (MCL) leads a small team of teachers, paraprofessionals, and teaching residents in the same grade or subject to help the team meet desired school outcomes and build capacity among all team members. MCLs collaborate with the principal to establish each team member’s roles and goals each year, and co-plans, co-teaches, models, and provides feedback to the members of their team while also teaching students directly. The MCL guides the team in analyzing student learning data and identifying changes to instruction to ensure high-growth learning for every student, and ensures consistent opportunities for collaboration among team members. The MCL, along with their team members, are accountable for the learning and development of all students taught by the team.

  • Job-Screening Questions (end of the application): 
    • Upload a Google link to your most recent Project COACH summative evaluation (internal HCS candidates), or most recent summative evaluation from your current district (external candidates). You must adjust the sharing settings to give Hamilton County Schools access to your link (internal HCS candidates) or make the link viewable by anyone (external candidates).

    • Recommendation from the applicant’s current principal - this will be submitted by your principal via a Google form.

NOTE: A panel will score applications to identify candidates to interview.

 

Selection Process:

  1. Interested applicants must complete and submit the application for the Multi-Classroom Leader pool.
  2. All applicants will be screened at the district level. 
  3. Selected candidates will participate in a district-level interview. 
  4. Principals will conduct a school-level interview with selected candidates. 

Responsibilities

Planning and Preparation:

  • Executes in their own classroom and leads the team to:
    • Set high expectations for achievement that are ambitious and measurable for all students taught by the team.
    • Implement and execute district-adopted and developed instructional tools and materials in each of their classrooms.
    • Plan backward to align all lessons, activities, and assessments.
    • Design instruction that is enriched (developing higher-order thinking skills) and personalized (reflecting learning levels and interests of individual students).
    • Design assessments that accurately assess student progress.

 

Classroom Environment:

  • Executes in their own classroom and leads the team to:
    • Hold students accountable for meeting high expectations of behavior and engagement that are ambitious and measurable.
    • Create physical classroom environments conducive to collaborative and individual learning.
    • Establish a culture of respect, enthusiasm, and rapport.

 

Instruction:

  • Executes in their own classroom and leads the team to:
    • Hold students accountable for ambitious, measurable standards of academic achievement.
    • Identify and address individual students’ social, emotional, and behavioral learning needs and barriers using district-provided and/or supported methods and practices when applicable.
    • Identify and address individual students’ development of organizational and time-management skills.
    • Invest students in their learning.
    • Incorporate questioning and discussion in teaching.
    • Incorporate small-group and individual instruction to meet individual student needs.
    • Monitor and analyze student assessment data to inform instruction by each teacher, as well as placement of students in appropriate instructional or intervention groups.
    • Communicate with students and keep them informed of their progress.

 

Professional Responsibilities:

  • Meets all professional responsibilities for a teacher in Hamilton County Schools. 
  • Conducts coaching cycles using the Student-Centered Coaching model.
  • Meets weekly with the principal to develop and discuss team support plans (may be part of instructional team meeting or meeting with instructional coach and principal, as decided in the school design model).
  • Develops and maintains a weekly schedule of team support, which must include a minimum of 90 minutes of classroom release time per week for each teacher on team. The MCL still maintains a schedule and teaches their own class with the support of a teacher resident or Reach associate.
  • Organizes and schedules consistent team time to ensure alignment and provide opportunities for collaboration.
  • Maintains accurate and consistent documentation of coaching cycles and team meetings.
  • Solicits and eagerly receives feedback from principal and team members to improve professional skills.
  • Leads team to maintain regular communication with families.
  • Models instructional tasks to aid team development.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities at the school and provides follow-up by supporting and coaching teachers in the use of the presented strategies in their classrooms.
  • Collaborates with principal by providing feedback on: 
    • Non-instructional administrative duties for their team of teachers.
    • Team members’ roles and potential role changes, including increasing job opportunities for team teachers who are ready to advance (to new or more complex roles).
  • Maintains appropriate licensure and acknowledges that continued employment with the Hamilton County Department of Education is contingent upon providing required documentation to validate licensure in a timely manner.
  • Implements district, state, and federal policies, regulations, and laws.
  • Participates in faculty meetings, professional development, educational conferences, and other activities that promote professional growth and student achievement.
  • Works collaboratively with administrators, faculty, and staff.
  • Attends work and arrives to work on time.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Adheres to the Teacher Code of Ethics as defined by Tennessee Law.

 

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Encourages learning, growth, and achievement and demonstrates life-long learning of best practices as a way to build capacity in team members.
  • Establishes positive rapport with administration and staff.
  • Attends and participates in all required meetings.
  • Attends all summer professional learning sessions required of coaches and MCLs.
  • Complies with accounting and financial policies and procedures involving the handling of money and property, as well as other Board policies.
  • Use computers and other technology to enter and access information related to essential job functions.
  • May operate a motor vehicle to conduct various work activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Hours:

  • This is a full-time position, with built-in planning and collaboration time to complete administrative tasks, analyze data, plan instruction, manage the team, and collaborate with the principal.

Qualifications

Knowledge/Education/Experience:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with certification as specified by state and federal standards for the teaching position held.  Master’s degree is preferred. 
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience required. 
  • One (1) year of previous instructional coaching experience in Hamilton County or another district required.
  • Experience in facilitating professional learning preferred.
  • Experience successfully leading and managing a team of adults to accomplish goals preferred.

    • MCLs must have a significant repertoire of research-based instructional and coaching practices that are used with students and teachers in a way that leads to increased student achievement
  • Develop, support, and manage people
    • MCLs must assume leadership of a team of teachers and works to increase the short and long-term effectiveness of those individuals through consistent collaboration, coaching, and feedback, while also developing their own expertise that improves job outcomes over time
  • Create a culture of belonging
    • MCLs must work to develop trusting and collaborative relationships with their team and principal that ensure all team members feel valued, supported, and developed
  • Demonstrate problem solving and strategic management
    • MCLs must be able to collect, analyze, and use multiple forms of data to make team-related decisions and demonstrate flexibility to adapt their approach to the requirements of a specific situation

 

Compensation:
This position is paid on the teacher salary scale plus a $10,000-$15,000 based on the size of the teaching team. 


Salary is based on a combination of relevant education and experience.
