TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The Transition Specialist position is a 10.25-month (210 days) teacher contract, plus benefits package. NOTE: Precise placement within the salary range will be determined on education and experience background. FLSA: Exempt.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- A master's degree or higher from an accredited institution with a valid Arkansas Educator’s License is required.
- Arkansas certification as a Building Level Administrator or Counselor is preferred.
- A minimum of three years of teaching experience in public education is required.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage and administer an educational program.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
Job Description:
Position is responsible for assisting students, often those with disabilities or at-risk learners, to transition successfully from one learning environment to another.. This involves developing personalized transition plans, providing support and counseling, coordinating resources, and advocating for the student's needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Transitions Job Duties
- Coordinate ALE placements, registration, and orientation processes.
- Supervise the coordination of transitions to include - Nichols assessment, Student Action Plans, and Student Transition plans upon student exit to home site.
- Facilitate professional learning opportunities for ALE and traditional site staff and leaders.
- Maintain and update ALE required reports and documents related to transitions and student support..
- Responsible for providing technical assistance to home school site administration in regards to the K-12 expulsion referral process.
- Collaborate with the HALE administration team around placements.
- Collaborate with the SPED department on K-12 special education student placements and referrals.
- Coordinate virtual learning for distance learning students assigned to ACC Digital Learning.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned.
Essential K-5 ALE Duties
- Supports the faculty and staff of the K-5 Elementary ALE with transitions and behavior plans.
- Maintains academic and behavioral records on all assigned K-5 ALE students.
- Meets with parents to resolve issues with students.
- Assists HALE Director/Principal with site visits for K-5 students transitioning back to their home site.
Mental Functions, Physical Requirements, and Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, go up and down stairs, operate foot and hand controls, use a telephone, and write. Occasionally, the employee must lift and/or move up to twenty (20) or more pounds. This position requires accurate perceiving of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, handling and working with educational materials and/or objects, and providing oral information. Must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted period, and to be physically present and at assigned work, with only infrequent unexcused absences, during the contract year. Additional technical skills, knowledge, and abilities may be recommended by the immediate supervisor and approved by the Human Resources Director.
