Hamilton-Madison House’s Early Childhood Education Program supports and enhances the existing strengths of family child care through programs that promote continuous and responsive relationships, strengthen early learning skills, build resilience, and lay the foundation for all future learning. Hamilton-Madison House views family childcare as a respected and valued profession within the early care and education system in New York City.
The Educational Specialist will develop and implement an innovative Education Programs for the Family Child Care Network Staff and Child Care Providers utilizing knowledge of recent development in the Field of Early Childhood Education, while demonstrating respect for the homes, and varied cultural backgrounds of these families and the children the Program serves (particularly as it relates to the proper education of children in low-income families).
This position reports to the Network Director and the Education Director
Responsibilities:
- Develop culturally competent and engaging education programs that demonstrate an understanding of adolescent developmental stages and principles of early childhood education
- Regular Travel required to family childcare provider homes including bi-weekly visits to provider homes designed to offer guidance and support to program participants and families
- Participate in regular staff meetings to review and discuss program updates, individual providers and families, and coordinate all services.
- Participate in Network staff professional learning sessions
- Assist in ongoing outreach, enrollment, and all other administrative tasks
- supporting all FCC affiliated providers.
- Support the Network Director in updating family information in the Network database
- Work closely with the Family Childcare Network Director to coordinate staff meetings and educational workshops.
Qualifications, Skills and Specifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working with toddlers and/or infants (Experience with Headstart or Family child care is a plus! )
- Must be experienced in teaching strategies GOLD and lesson planning
- Demonstrates a commitment to collaboration and an appreciation for the unique needs of all providers and families
- Bilingual in English and Spanish, Mandarin, or Cantonese
- Ability to frequently travel on public transportation or utilize own transportation for required site travel
- Basic computer literacy and Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office
- Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects and deadlines
Compensation: $45,000-$48,000 depending on qualifications and experience
*Salary based on credentials with DC 37 Local 205
Union Position, with generous benefits
Hours: 35 hours a week including some evening hours
