Position Overview
The Hamilton-Madison House City Hall Older Adult Center (CHOAC) is one of the largest older adult centers in New York City, providing nutritious meals and vital services and activities to older adults from NYC. CHOAC is a model for providing high-quality, high-volume, culturally and linguistically appropriate services and programs and has a high public profile and visibility. The Office Manager plays an integral role in ensuring that the City Hall Older Adult Center (CHOAC) office runs smoothly and efficiently by managing day-to-day operations and administrative tasks. Additionally, the individual will assist with program operations such as member registration, preparing monthly reports, and support during the meal program. The position reports to the Program Director and Office Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the safety and well-being of participants, maintaining order at all times, especially during emergency situations, meal services, activities, and special events.
- Assist with meal ticket distribution at the greeting counter.
- Collaborate with the office manager to file and maintain meal program attendance and other group activity records.
- Perform daily data entry, collect, maintain, and organize all participant records/sign-in sheets, and scan them into STARS and other required formats.
- Support office administration tasks.
- Conduct NSI assessments and update members’ profiles in STARS.
- Work with the CHOAC Director and team to support group activities, workshops, and special events such as holiday meals, birthday parties, and holiday celebrations.
- Assist with educational and recreational activities, health promotion activities, and nutrition workshops as needed.
- Attend team meetings and training sessions.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a human services field or a high school diploma with extensive social service-related experience.
- Warm, empathetic, and enthusiastic personality; energetic and sensitive to the needs of the elderly. Prior experience working with older adults is desirable.
- Bilingual/biliterate in Chinese and English required; ability to speak two or more Chinese dialects is a plus.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented; capable of managing multiple concurrent projects, often with short deadlines.
- Experience handling health and safety situations related to senior citizens.
- Basic computer skills required.
- Understanding and appreciation of the role of race, religion, ethnicity, sexual preference, and individual values in serving clients and their families. Commitment to diversity and ability to work with a diverse population of older adults, volunteers, and staff.
Compensation:
- $20 per hour
- Tuesday through Thursday - 15 hours per week
