Department: CVOR Shift: 8:00am - 4:30pm Monday - Friday
JOB SUMMARY
A perfusionist is a skilled, allied health professional, trained and educated specifically as a member of an open-heart surgical team and is responsible for the selection, setup, and operation of the heart-lung machine. The Perfusionist is knowledgeable concerning the variety of equipment available to perform extra-corporeal circulation functions and is responsible in consultation with the surgeon for selecting the appropriate equipment and techniques to be used. Participates in Process Improvement Program.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor's degree in science
Licensure: Certified Clinical Perfusionist by American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion, Georgia Composite Medical Board Clinical Perfusion License, BLS required
Experience: Previous Perfusion experience preferred
Skills: Finger and hand dexterity. Ability to obtain and interpret pertinent information in terms of the patient's needs. Ability to select proper instrumentation/supplies appropriate for the procedure being performed and the age group of the patient served.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL, ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Prolonged walking and standing required, with the ability to lift and move patients. Ability to tolerate rapid patient turnover and high census. Works in typical surgery setting with patients experiencing a wide range of surgical procedures and anesthetics. Required to take call, with some late day assignments requested. Ability to effectively cope with acute emergency situations.
