The Hampshire Fire Protection District, Hampshire Illinois in Kane and Dekalb Counties is seeking a Fire Chief to lead the community-oriented Fire District’s administration and operations.
The Hampshire Fire Protection District (HFPD) serves an area of 42 square miles plus 9 miles of Interstate 90 in a district that consists of residential, commercial, industrial and agriculture. The district is rapidly growing with over 3,000 homes slated to be built over the next several years. The HFPD currently responds to 1,600 calls per year out of the 2 fire stations and owns land for a future 3rd station. The HFPD personnel consist of 12 Fulltime Firefighters/Paramedics, and 25 Part-time Firefighter/Paramedic/EMT’s. The Fire Chief works directly with a Deputy Fire Chief, Captain of EMS/Public Education, Fire Marshal and a Financial Director.
The HFPD is seeking a well-respected leader to serve as its next Fire Chief. Candidates should have an exemplary work history and a proven record of dedication to the Fire Service. As the leading public servant, the new Fire Chief will provide clear direction, lead by example, and earn the respect of both the members of the department and the community. The Fire Chief will have a strong sense of ethical fortitude, integrity, and a commitment to organizational and community engagement, and will be dedicated to delivering exceptional customer service.
The ideal candidate will be a certified Chief Fire Officer, will have a minimum of 10 years fire service experience, will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a key supervisory/ command position and preferred Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college. The new chief will be required to reside within 5 miles of the boundaries of the District within one year of hire and be able to pass a medical examination by a department selected occupational health physician to ensure they are fit-for-duty.
The salary range to be paid will be $120,000-$145,000 and will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience. The District provides participation in its Article 4 pension fund and an excellent benefits package.
