What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transportation Dispatcher position at Hampton City Schools?
- Communicates effectively with employees and the public through two-way radio and telephone transmissions.
- Dispatches buses in an effective, efficient, and safe manner to ensure coverage of all regular, special education, activity, displaced, athletic and field trip runs.
- Ensures coverage of bus routes by assignment of sub drivers/attendants when necessary.
- Maintains a daily log of information concerning bus operations.
- Coordinates bus repairs between drivers and bus garage.
- Makes assignments of spare buses.
- Communicates with Lot Attendants to determine availability of spare buses and lot operations.
- Contacts responsible parties to receive Pre-K, KG, ESL and Special Education students when a parent/guardian is not present to receive child.
- Resolves complaints from community and school personnel.
- Distributes information to bus drivers/attendants.
- Performs a variety of Transportation office clerical tasks.
- Operates EDULOG Routing System.
- Operates SYNOVIA GPS System.
- Drives a school bus as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Completion of a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED).
- Preferred experience in school transportation as a driver, scheduler, or dispatcher.
- Working knowledge of school bus transportation operations.
- Working knowledge of school locations and local roadway systems.
- Ability to read, write, communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and with a two-way radio.
- Possession of a Commercial Driver’s License with a School Bus/Passenger endorsement or have the ability to obtain such.
- Ability to collect and organize detailed information and prepare required reports.
- Dispatch experience preferred.
