WHAT'S YOUR DAY LIKE?

As a Full-Time Mental Health Clinician at Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board, you will be responsible for managing a diverse caseload that includes homeless adults with mental illness and clients dealing with co-occurring substance abuse disorders. In this role, you will conduct comprehensive assessments and provide individual, group, and family therapy, alongside short-term crisis intervention services. You'll develop individualized treatment plans and facilitate essential referrals, ensuring clients receive necessary case management support.

Collaboration is key, as you will work closely with other agency staff to coordinate client care and actively participate in client staffing discussions. Additionally, you'll maintain accurate client records, prepare diagnostic reports, and identify community resources to enhance client linkages. Your role will also involve attending and testifying at hearings related to client care, documenting service data, and assisting in the orientation of volunteers and students, ultimately contributing to a supportive and effective mental health care environment.

To thrive as a Full-Time Mental Health Clinician at Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board, applicants must possess a Master's Degree in Counseling or Social Work, along with at least one year of experience in a clinical or hospital psychiatric care setting, which includes substance abuse counseling, crisis intervention, and case management functions. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong clinical skills, enabling them to conduct thorough assessments and deliver effective individual, group, and family therapy. Proficiency in documentation and reporting is essential, as is the ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.

Strong communication skills, empathy, and a commitment to safety and excellence will enhance success in this rewarding position.

Position Requirements: Master's Degree in Counseling or Social Work and 1 year experience in clinical/hospital psychiatric care setting including substance abuse counseling crisis intervention and case management functions. Must provide proof of registration for supervision toward licensure with the LPC or LCSW Virginia Licensing Board within 90 days of employment.
