Your day to day as a Therapist I, Juvenile Justice Services

As a Full-Time Therapist I for Juvenile Justice Services with the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board, you'll manage a predetermined caseload in an outpatient setting, focusing on the assessment and evaluation of incoming clients. Your role will involve providing essential individual, group, and family counseling, as well as educational sessions and comprehensive discharge and aftercare planning. You'll deliver critical mental health and substance use screenings, short-term therapeutic interventions, and crisis intervention for youth facing challenges before the Hampton and Newport News Juvenile and Domestic Relations Courts. Additionally, you'll serve adolescents in the community or those in Newport News Secure Detention, offering intensive substance use programming tailored to both youth and their families. Your impactful work will directly affect the progress of clients in treatment, while you also develop individualized treatment plans, behavioral contracts, and actively participate in legal proceedings by attending and testifying at hearings.

What you need to be successful

To excel as a Full-Time Therapist I in Juvenile Justice Services at the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board, candidates must possess a Master's degree in human services along with at least one year of clinical experience working with youth in similar settings. Strong communication skills are essential for effective individual, group, and family counseling, enabling you to build trust and rapport with clients. Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities will support the development of individualized treatment plans and behavioral contracts, adapting to the unique needs of each adolescent.

Proficiency in relevant software and tools related to mental health assessments and documentation is also vital, facilitating efficient case management.
