The Assistant Director of the Student Counseling Center serves in the absence of Director. An overview of responsibilities includes the following:

  • Assist Director with organizational and administrative tasks as requested
  • Develops and manages clinical and administrative training services for unlicensed mental health providers
  • Coordinates graduate training programs within the SCC
  • Manages Titanium system including building of clinical schedules
  • Manages and tracks clinical data for review with director and presentation to campus
  • Provides administrative oversight of trainees and unlicensed clinical staff
  • Provides individual therapy
  • Provides group therapy/workshops
  • Provides on-call/crisis counseling
  • Represents department at University and other functions as appropriate

Job Duties:

  • Meet and maintain requirements for clinical mental health licensure.
  • Assists in daily monitoring of clinical schedules and management of unlicensed staff.
  • Seek continuing education opportunities to stay current in respective mental health field of study.
  • Provides leadership in the coordination of needs assessment and outcome research for the Counseling Center.
  • Manages Professional Development series for SCC staff.
  • Monitors and maintains professional standards, ethics, and laws.
  • Manages Maxient reporting system cases to ensure timely review and clinical attention to cases.
  • Confers regularly with the Director regarding issues affecting Counseling Center staff, mental health needs of students, and service delivery.
  • Assists in the coordination of postvention services following student crises (e.g., student suicides and other deaths, accidents, fires, etc.).
  • Leads the search process to identify, interview and hire advanced practicum students (interns). Possess the qualifications to provide clinical supervision to students.
  • Independently performs case finding functions and outreach, identifying and screening students for psychosocial needs. Incumbent must possess the knowledge and ability to independently implement treatment modalities, provide counseling or psychotherapy for individuals and groups.
  • Independently conducts psychosocial assessments.
  • Develops treatment plans in collaboration with the student and with the Student Counseling Center if applicable.
  • Incumbent possesses the skills to offer psychosocial interventions and measures outcomes to interventions.
  • Independently identifies high-risk patients and provides crisis intervention services, seeking to address the cause as well as the presenting complaint, coordinates family conferences and serves as liaison to family members, faculty, and other University Personnel.
  • Has working knowledge and experience in use of medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities and treatment procedures. This includes acute, chronic and traumatic illnesses/injuries.
  • Develops campus education materials/modules and assists with Peer Counselor activities as assigned.
  • Provides after hours and on-call crisis intervention services.
  • Independently provides consultation services to other university staff regarding the psychosocial needs of students and the impact of psychosocial problems on health care and adherence to treatment plan. Ability to evaluate incumbents’ own practice through professional peer review, case conferences and other SCC organizational means. Incumbent is able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people from varied backgrounds.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • This position requires one who is student-centered, accessible and open to providing mental health services to students.
  • Clinical experience working with diverse populations.
  • The successful candidate must be able to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and serve as a liaison and student advocate.
  • Must possess the ability to deal with student crises as they arise
  • Must be able to work collaboratively across disciplines.
  • Experience with outreach programming, is desired.
  • Must have managerial experience and/or proven managerial skillset

Requirements:

  • Completion of a Master’s Degree in Counseling from a CACREP accredited school and/or a Master’s Degree in Social Work and licensure in a state at the independent/clinical practice level. A terminal Masters or Doctoral Degree in Psychology, Counseling and/or Social Work is required.
  • Completion of Clinical Mental Health Licensure for respective field of study.
  • Experience in outpatient mental health, medical settings, and/or University Counseling Centers preferred.
