POSITION DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY:
Assist the Maintenance & Auto Technicians in maintaining county properties including buildings, vehicles, equipment, radio tower sites, graveyards, lawns, gardens, trees, shrubs, driveways, parking lots, playing fields, and sidewalks. Assist in the design and implementation of preventative maintenance routines to reduce the need for costly repairs, potential hazards to public safety and unavailability of public services.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee regularly works both indoor and outdoor in all weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts & is exposed to loud noises from operating equipment. The employee may occasionally work in high, precarious places, steep slopes and on ladders. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme heat and cold as well as other types of inclement weather conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The employee is required to wear personal protective equipment under appropriate circumstances.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform regular ground and landscape maintenance by mowing lawns & trimming trees.
- Respond to calls/emergency calls for maintenance and repairs.
- Perform routine maintenance and up-keep on all county buildings, equipment and tools.
- Perform snow removal, gritting, and salting across county sites.
- Regularly inspect heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, electrical, and plumbing systems across all county sites. Quickly scheduling or performing repairs as needed to ensure proper operation.
- Maintain alarm systems such as carbon dioxide, fire protection, personal alarms. Quickly scheduling or performing repairs as needed.
- Complete administrative duties, such as filling out forms and reporting maintenance statuses to supervisor.
- May assist other departments as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- May be required to work outside of normal work hours.
TECHNICAL SKILLS, GENERAL ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE:
- Strong understanding of general maintenance processes and methods.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules and applicable codes, operating and maintenance instructions, and other manuals and documents.
- Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with others and follow instructions from supervisors.
- Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate person(s).
- Experience with electrical systems, HVAC systems, plumbing, painting, general construction
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions including seasonally hot or cold temperatures and in climate weather.
- Ability to lift, carry, or shovel objects weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to perform physical labor requires continual and repetitive use of large motor skills to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, crawl, crouch, shovel, push, pull, twist, turn, stretch, reach, and continual and repetitive use of fine motor skills and manual dexterity.
- Ability to maintain balance, work safely on steep slopes, and work from ladders of various heights.
- Ability to work around equipment that generates noise, vibration, and heat.
EXPERIENCE:
- Demonstrated experience in a similar maintenance role.
- Experience in driving & operating a variety of equipment, including snow blowers, lawn mowers, motor vehicles, & power tools etc.
EDUCATION:
- High School Diploma or GED.
LICENSE:
- Valid Driver's License.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Must pass criminal background check.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
- Must pass drug tests.
