What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Receptionist - Occupational Therapy Department position at Hand Surgery of Northern Michigan?
1. Answering phones and making outgoing phone calls to coordinate incoming and outgoing referrals. Communicating with other departments within the practice.
2. Schedule patients for multiple appointments, with consideration for patient's availability.
3. Working with billing department and insurance verifier to schedule new patients and determine insurance coverage and current prescription on file.
4. Facilitate patient flow and set-up modalities.
5. Maintain chart organization and faxing and scanning documents into electronic medical record as needed.
6. Clean and prepare treatment area for next patient and maintain organization and availibility of clinic supplies. Complete laundry duties throughout the day, coordinating with Dr.'s staff/laundry. Maintain a supply of cleaned and sterilized wound care tools.
7. Print schedules at end of day, pull charts. Scan chart after evals, re-evals, etc.
8. Yearly training for Corporate Compliance, HIPAA, and OSHA.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
No specific education needed.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Typing, alphabetizing, basic computer knowledge, handle multi-line telephone, accuracy in entering computer information. Clerical ability to maintain records. Multi-task clinical and clerical responsibilities, particularly ability to prioritize.
INTERPERSONAL:
Must have excellent people skills-able to communicate with respect and empathy in person and on the phone, work well under pressure, able to multi-task. Have skills to function within a group work atmosphere, to offer and accept feedback in a positive and productive manner. Act in a professional manner reflecting the mission and philosophy of Hand Surgery of Northern Michigan.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Frequent lifting 5-10# and infrequent lifting to a maximum of approximately 50 lbs. Frequent bending, sitting, standing, walking, squatting, reaching forward, reaching overhead, using one or both hands for pinching, grasping, pulling, pushing, twisting, writing, and keyboarding. Frequent use of tools such as scissors, box cutters, pliers, etc. Know the physical requirements of the job and work within those guidelines. Keep vaccinations current as required by Hand Surgery of Northern Michigan.
