Your impact
Handshake is expanding into AI research and development, building a world-class network of expert Fellows - PhDs, researchers, and subject matter specialists - who contribute to cutting-edge AI through specialized research, model evaluation, and domain-specific applications. We're looking for an Instructional Designer to develop training and onboarding materials for this expert network, ensuring Fellows understand and can execute effectively against this work.
This role is a unique opportunity to bridge academia and industry, shaping a new initiative at Handshake while collaborating with product, operations, and partnerships teams to create a seamless and rewarding Fellow experience.
This position is located in our San Francisco office, right next to the Montgomery BART station, and this team traditionally works in the office five days a week.
Your role
- Design and develop instructional materials, including video modules, instructor-led training, and blended learning solutions.
- Identify opportunities to proactively address learning gaps and performance improvement opportunities.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure content accuracy and relevance.
- Apply instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, SAM) to create engaging learning experiences.
- Develop and implement strategies for assessment and evaluation to measure learning effectiveness.
- Stay current with trends and best practices in instructional design and learning technologies.
- Align training materials with Handshake's broader AI data strategy, collaborating closely with product, marketing, and operations teams.

For cash compensation, we set standard ranges for all U.S.-based roles based on function, level, and geographic location, benchmarked against similar stage growth companies. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including geographic location as well as candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
