Job Duties/Scope Of Work
The Operations Support Specialist will support the Aviation and Remote Sensing Program for the Hanford Site which includes the small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) Program, remote sensing capabilities, and the Manned Aviation Program for the Site. The Operations Specialist will assist with flight planning, flight reviews, scheduling/coordinating, processing and managing data, new technology development and integration, and other processes needed to operate the comprehensive sUAS program at the Hanford site. The position will require the ability to effectively communicate with HMIS organizations, peers, management, internal customers, other Hanford contractors, outside agencies, subcontractors, and Department of Energy (DOE). Other job expectations include but are not limited to the following:
- Provide excellent customer service for the operation of the Aviation and Remote Sensing Program.
- Understand and adhere to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and DOE Office of Aviation Management (DOE-OAM) regulations for sUAS, while incorporating requirements unique to the Hanford site.
- Assist with the development of Aviation and Remote Sensing Program communications, software upgrades, procedural updates, customer requests, and records management resources.
- Manage and process data collected by sUAS (e.g., LiDAR, 3-D Models, and Photogrammetry).
- Create maps for the flight areas of planned sUAS and/or manned flights using geospatial software or web-based tools.
- Participate in the implementation of new sUAS and remote sensing technologies and program development.
- Participate in site walk-downs prior to and during sUAS flights.
- Function as a backup for Aviation Safety Officer.
- Support the utilization of imagery and other data collected by the Aviation and Remote Sensing Program to facilitate automated change detection or other geospatial analysis.
- May be expected to work outside of regular shift to support special mission flights.
Basic Qualifications
-BA/BS degree plus 1 year of experience in aviation program operations, aviation program administration, geospatial processing, UAS program experience, or data management -OR- an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficient with computer applications, including Microsoft Office suite.
Desired Qualifications
-Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Capability to interact in a professional demeanor on a daily basis with management, other Hanford contractors and team members.
- Experience with geospatial software (ESRI products or similar software) or data processing (PIX4D, ArcGIS, other related software).
- Prior aviation safety experience.
- Has a FAA Part 107 certification.
- Experience at a government facility, working with multiple clients in an operational environment.

Grade 14: $72,925 - $91,975
INTERMEDIATE LEVEL:
Grade 15: $80,225 - $101,175
Grade 16: $88,200 - $111,100
Grade 17: $96,938 - $122,113
