Job Description

Summary/Objective
The position of CSC Child Psychiatric Medical Director is responsible for the supervision of the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) who will be responsible for the overall coordination and delivery of psychiatric medical services of children and adults who have recently began experiencing symptoms of psychosis as part of a Coordinated Specialty Care (CSC) team. CSC Child Psychiatric Medical Director should have training and experience in screening/assessing and treating attenuated and full psychosis with children and adults. This position is mostly remote but office space if available if desired. This position also has the opportunity to expand to overseeing other programs.

  • Contribute to CSC program medical development and implementation.
  • Support with developing medical and clinical policies to ensure legal and ethical client care.
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality screening, assessment, treatment and related services by actively participating in ongoing quality assurance and audit processes to ensure compliance with county, state, and federal laws, rules and regulations
  • Participate in recruitment, onboarding, and training of PMHNP.
  • Provide weekly clinical supervision to PMHNP.
  • Ensure proper credentialing, privileging, and performance review of PMHNP.
  • Ensure that all CSC participants receive appropriate psychiatric medical evaluations including thorough medical screening, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Supervise PMHNP in administering injectables
  • Ensure that all psychiatric medical care is appropriately and timely documented in the medical record within 72 hours.
  • Support the completion of evaluations for disability applications, conservatorship, and 5150/5585 evaluations if needed.
  • Provide coverage as needed to ensure continuity of care
  • Attends and participates in weekly program management meetings.
  • Attends and participates in weekly staff meetings on a monthly basis or as needed
  • Attends weekly clinical consultation meetings as needed
  • Work with a multi-disciplinary team that includes psychiatric nurse practitioners, mental health clinicians, employment and educational specialists, and family specialists, and peer support specialists.
  • Consult and provide on-going education to non-medical staff in psychopharmacology and medical aspects of patient care.
  • Attends and participates in all assigned trainings for professional, program, and agency development.
  • Comply with all federal regulations, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), for the privacy and security of client information.
  • Maintain quality assurance standards, adherence to MediCal/MediCare documentation requirements and data collection for measured outcomes.
  • Additional duties as needed.


Minimum Requirements

  • Valid license to practice medicine issued by the Medical Board of California AND Board-certified psychiatrist with at least 3 years post graduate experience as a practicing physician and 1 year of supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and psychosis. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions and preventative healthcare measures.
  • Minimum 1 year experience working with the Clinically High Risk for Psychosis (CHRp) and First Episode Psychosis (FEP) population in a CSC program
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • Current malpractice insurance.

Ability to

  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing in order to interview people, disseminate and record information.
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions and apply them in a variety of situations.
  • Use correct English grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

Competencies

  • Ability to oversee and support PMHNP and other team members with clinical and administrative expertise.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric medical care for children and adults experiencing psychosis, including knowledge of psychopharmacology and treatment planning.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong verbaly and written communication to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, participants, and families.
  • Ability to provide services with sensitivity to diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Ability to analyze clinical situations, develop effective solutions, and make sound medical decisions.
  • Knowledge of legal and ethical guidelines related to psychiatric care, HIPAA, and Medi-Cal/MediCare documentation.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of care through continuous quality monitoring and improvement efforts.
  • Ability to mentor and educate staff on best practices in psychiatric care and emerging treatment modalities.

Comments

  • Must clear background check for a Community Care Licensed facility, including physical, TB, and drug test.
  • Sit for extended periods of time and the ability to manage repetitive hand/wrist movements while using a computer keyboard and/or the phone. Bend, squat, stoop, and walk- up a flight of stairs.
  • Lift and/or carry up to 20 lbs., occasionally. Duties are primarily performed in an office environment at a desk or computer terminal.

Work Environment
Typical office and clinical environment. Responsibilities may include offsite meetings, trainings, or other activities as required by business needs.
