Located on a 90-acre campus in Sonoma, California, Hanna Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the well-being and mental health of youth, families, and communities. A leader in compassionate, integrative care, Hanna Center offers mental health services, clinical resources, and community recreation programs in multiple languages and settings. Additionally, Hanna provides nationwide training in trauma-informed best practices to individuals, practitioners, and organizations. Position Summary
The Development Associate is responsible for cultivating and stewarding mid-to-low level donors, managing fundraising elements of signature events, and supporting digital fundraising efforts. This role plays a key part in engaging the community, managing donor relationships, and ensuring the success of Hanna Center’s fundraising initiatives. The Development Associate will work closely with the VP of Development, MGOs, Director of Marketing and Community Programming, and other team members to build meaningful connections and secure financial support for Hanna’s mission.

Donor Engagement & Stewardship:
- Cultivate relationships with mid-to-low level donors, with a focus on those giving at the $1,000 level.
- Develop and implement a stewardship plan to engage and retain donors.
- Organize and lead tours, community engagement events, and donor appreciation activities.
- Coordinate a new donor initiative, such as the Change Maker Society, to encourage cumulative giving and recognize donors annually.
- Plan and execute a private donor appreciation event for the Change Maker Society each fall.
- Track donor interactions, contributions, and engagement in Raiser’s Edge (training provided).
Community Engagement & Tours:
- Facilitate approximately 300 donor tours per year to introduce potential donors to Hanna’s work.
- Implement a monthly Saturday morning breakfast and tour program to welcome community members to the campus.
- Establish a structured cadence for daily tours and engagement opportunities.
- Work with community partners to invite new audiences to visit Hanna and learn about its mission.
Fundraising & Event Management:
- Support the development elements and execution of fundraising events, including securing in-kind donations, silent auction items, and raffle prizes.
- Manage low-level sponsorships ($1,000 and below) for fundraising events and initiatives.
- Partner with the Director of Marketing and Community Programming to oversee event logistics and donor-related communications.
- Coordinate donor relationships for events, including organizing table groups and foursomes for the Hanna Golf Classic.
- Ensure all donor and event contributions are recorded accurately in Greater Giving and Raiser’s Edge.
Fundraising Goals & Reporting:
- Contribute to annual fundraising revenue targets, including a combination of in-kind donations, event sponsorships, and recurring monthly gifts.
- Maintain accurate records of donor interactions, contributions, and tours.
- Develop reports and track donor engagement to identify trends and growth opportunities.
Digital & Peer-to-Peer Fundraising:
- Collaborate with the Director of Marketing and Community Programming to drive digital fundraising efforts.
- Develop and implement online campaigns, crowdfunding initiatives, and social media-driven fundraising strategies.
- Lead peer-to-peer fundraising efforts, particularly engaging Hanna’s alumni network.
- Seek out and secure new community partnerships and philanthropic collaborations to support Hanna’s programs.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
- 1-2 years of experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, donor relations, or event management.
- Strong relationship-building skills and ability to engage donors and community members.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Proficiency in donor management software (Raiser’s Edge experience preferred, training provided).
- Experience with event planning, in-kind donations, and sponsorships.
- Ability to collaborate across departments and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Passion for Hanna Center’s mission and a commitment to community engagement.
Comments
- Must clear background check for a Community Care Licensed facility, including physical, TB, and drug test.
- Sit for extended periods and have the ability to manage repetitive hand/wrist movements while using a computer keyboard and/or the phone.
- Bend, squat, stoop, and walk up flight of stairs.
- Lift and/or carry up to 20 lbs., occasionally. Duties are primarily performed in an office environment at a desk or computer terminal.
- General office working conditions apply.
- The employee is stationed at the workstation for the majority of the job but will work occasionally outdoors at events.
- Occasional overtime, including evenings and weekends, is required.
- Some travel is required.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
