Job Description
The Hanover Area YMCA is beginning their search for fun, friendly, qualified lead camp counselors to work with us this summer at day camp. Hours will be Monday thru Friday.
This position will assist in the implementation of age appropriate activities while being actively engaged with campers. Lead Counselors will supervise children and provide guidance to other counselors according to the Camp Standard Operating Procedures and promote YMCA Core Values (Honesty, Respect, Caring and Responsibility).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist the Camp Coordinator in planning activities, themes, special events and daily routines.
- Develop and/or implement daily plans stressing diversity of activity.
- Provide leadership to camp counselors, giving guidance in planning, implementation, instruction and human relations, all while under the supervision of the Camp Coordinator.
- Keep accurate daily attendance; inform Camp Coordinator daily. Input accident/incident reports into Connect 2.
- Initiate parent contact for injuries, illness and concerns or issues regarding campers.
- Communicate all problems, concerns, incidents, and accidents with Camp Coordinator immediately.
- Be a positive role model to camp counselors and campers at all times, using sound and mature judgement in decision making and behavior.
- Attend all staff meetings and trainings as deemed necessary.
- Attend all special events, such as evening family events.
- Give guidance and leadership to camp counselors.
- Gather and acquire supplies for all activities prior to start of day.
- Teach and model the YMCA’s Character Development initiative.
- All other duties as assigned.
- QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous experience working with children.
- Teaching and/or student teaching preferred.
- Provide clearance certifications prior to first day: Child Abuse, State Police & FBI Fingerprints.
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Mandated Reporter Training within 30 days of hire.
- Completion of required pre-camp training by given deadline.
- Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
