What are the responsibilities and job description for the Park Attendant - Part-time Non-benefited, Seasonal position at Hanover County Government?
Hanover County Parks and Recreation, a nationally recognized, award-winning agency, is looking for energetic and positive team members to work weekends as Park Attendants. Work is performed on weekends but can be flexible if time off is needed (two to three weekends per month required to work). Candidates should be able to work independently or with a group.
General Description: This is a seasonal field position. The incumbent performs routine tasks and fieldwork to assist with park operations on weeknights and/or weekends between the months of March and November.
Organization: The Park Attendant reports to the Groundskeeper Supervisor and supervises no staff.
Essential Functions:
Prepares athletic fields for games and practices to include infield grooming, line painting, and setting bases.
Performs routine inspections of general park spaces including trails, picnic shelters, sports courts, athletic fields, play areas, walkways, parking areas, announcement booths, skateparks, restrooms, concession buildings, and other facilities to ensure all areas are in good working order and safe for use by the general public; addresses issues as needed.
Completes inspection reports to document damage/vandalism and other items of concern.
Provides customer service to athletic organizations, mobile food vendors, and special event organizers related to permitted uses; ensures facilities are being used in an appropriate manner; reports misuse of facilities to supervisor as needed; assists with large department-sponsored events.
Assists park patrons with general inquiries and requests for assistance.
Assists with opening and securing facilities at various locations throughout the County to include buildings, gates, restrooms, and other facilities.
Operates County vehicles, utility terrain vehicles, and small power equipment during the normal course of duties; may assist with mowing operations and will be required to operate commercial-grade mowing equipment.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Field– 100% must be able to travel to Parks and Recreation event sites and meetings.
C. Physical Effort
Requires moderate work that involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, and involves lifting between 20 to 50 pounds on a regular and recurring basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions, required. Ability to follow and enforce rules. Must have the ability to work effectively with diverse groups and work tactfully with the public.
Education, Experience and Training:
Must be at least 17 years old. High school graduate or GED preferred but not required. Driving positions require staff to be at least 18 years of age.
Special Conditions:
Criminal records check, including fingerprinting
Possess a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays
May be assigned to work one or more parks
Examples of Duties:
Various part-time seasonal positions, hours flexible up to 29 per week depending on availability.
General hours of operation during season include: Monday through Friday, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., variable shifts; Sunday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., variable shifts.
