Position: Director of Mission Advancement

Organization Overview: Since 1951, Happy Hollow Children’s Camp, Inc. has been providing transformative camping experiences for children ages 7-17 at our beautiful facilities in Brown County, Indiana. Our primary focus is offering an overnight summer camp for children from Marion County, with over 95% of campers coming from families at or below the poverty level. Families pay only a modest fee for their child’s week at camp, making this opportunity accessible to those who need it most. In addition to our summer programming, we also offer specialized camps for children with a variety of special needs, as well as outdoor education programs during the school year, and we host rental groups year-round.
Position Purpose: The Director of Mission Advancement leads and executes strategies to increase funding, visibility, and engagement for Happy Hollow Children’s Camp. This role ensures the organization's financial sustainability through fundraising, marketing, donor relations, volunteer and alumni engagement, and strategic partnerships. By fostering relationships and securing resources, the Director of Mission Advancement strengthens the organization’s ability to serve campers now and in the future.
Essential Job Functions:
Fundraising & Donor Relations
-Develop and execute an annual fundraising plan to meet or exceed revenue goals.
-Identify, cultivate, and steward relationships with donors, corporate sponsors, and foundations.
-Lead grant writing efforts, including research, application, and reporting.
-Manage donor database, ensuring accurate records and donor stewardship.
-Plan and execute fundraising events, including the annual Gala, Community Camp and other donor engagement opportunities.
-Provide regular progress reports on fundraising goals to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
Marketing & Communications
-Oversee the creation of print, digital, and social media content to enhance Happy Hollow’s visibility.
-Develop and manage donor communications, including newsletters, annual reports, and impact stories.
-Ensure consistent messaging across all communication channels, aligning with organizational branding.
-Lead the maintenance and development of the Happy Hollow website and social media presence.
Strategic Partnerships & Community Engagement
-Identify and pursue strategic partnerships that align with Happy Hollow’s mission.
-Engage with corporate partners, community organizations, and potential sponsors to expand donor networks.
-Represent Happy Hollow at networking events, donor meetings, and community gatherings.
-Support board and volunteer engagement in fundraising efforts.
Volunteer & Alumni Engagement
-Develop strategies to engage and steward alumni, fostering long-term relationships and potential support.
-Create opportunities for alumni to stay connected with Happy Hollow through events, mentorship, and giving.
-Support the recruitment, recognition, and engagement of volunteers, ensuring they have meaningful experiences that align with Happy Hollow’s mission.
-Work collaboratively with staff to maximize volunteer contributions in fundraising and outreach efforts.
Other Job Responsibilities:
-Attend year-round and seasonal staff meetings.
-Supervise one part time staff, in addition to interns, AmeriCorps members and volunteers.
-Maintain clear and positive written and verbal communication with staff, customers, and vendors.
-Serve on board committees and task forces as designated.
-Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s Degree in nonprofit management, communication, philanthropic studies, or a related field (significant experience may be considered in place of a degree).
-Proven experience in fundraising, donor relations, and grant writing.
-Strong knowledge of fundraising techniques and sources of philanthropic support.
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
-Experience managing donor databases and CRM platforms.
-Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
-Experience overseeing marketing, social media, and public relations efforts is preferred.
-Ability to work collaboratively while also being a self-starter.
Location: This position works primarily in the English Foundation Building in downtown Indianapolis (615 N Alabama Street, Suite 134, Indianapolis, IN). The individual will be at camp 1-2 days per month (3049 Happy Hollow Road, Nashville, IN) and travel occasionally for events, donor visits, or other business. There is the ability to work remotely, as agreed upon with the supervisor.

Compensation: This is a full-time, exempt position with an annual salary range of $55,000- $63,000, commensurate with experience.
