Counter Sales

Description

General Function: It is the responsibility of each employee of the Company to understand and promote the Company Mission Statement and Statement of Values while adhering to the Company Code of Conduct.  The primary responsibility of this position is to assist customers in store as well as coordinating sales and ordering for the Outside Sales Representatives.

Experience:  Minimum of one year experience in the operation of a point-of-sale computer and experience in customer sales to the professional building trade is preferred.

Education:  Highschool diploma or GED required.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:  Good math and reading skills are required. The ability to represent the Company in a friendly and helpful manner is required. A basic knowledge of construction and or building materials is helpful.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities: 

1. Customers.
   1. Assisting all customers who enter store or yard.
   2. Handling telephone inquires.
   3. Assisting Outside Sales Representatives in any way needed to provide superior customer service to contractors.
   4. Handling customers with promptness and friendliness.
   5. Researching and ordering stock or special orders for customers.
   6. Handling customer complaints promptly and completely.
   7. Assisting in pulling orders as needed.
2. Inventory.
   1. Pricing and stocking merchandise on the sales floor.
   2. Handling customer invoices accurately.
   3. Handling customer requests for credits or job site pickups promptly and accurately.
   4. Ensuring no materials leave yard or warehouse without a ticket.
   5. Assisting with inventory cycle counts.
3. Safety.
   1. Complying with Company safety policy.
   2. Maintaining a clean, orderly, and safe work area.
   3. Reporting all safety concerns to the General Manager immediately.
4. Cash Handling.
   1. Processing cash sales and collecting payment accurately and promptly.
   2. Entering all point-of-sales information as needed.
5. General – As Harbin Lumber Company, Inc. is a group of locations each working individually and as a team, the Inside Sales Staff member must be a team player and must develop positive working relationships with all location personnel, Outside Sales Representatives, and other Company employees.

Physical Requirements:  Heavy lifting up to 100 pounds will be required on an occasional basis.

Working Conditions: The work is primarily inside in a good work environment but may require occasional outside work in all types of weather.
