Job Summary
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Substitute Preschool Teachers to join our educational team. The ideal candidates will have a strong background in early childhood education and a commitment to fostering a nurturing and stimulating environment for young children. This role involves working with diverse groups of children, including those with disabilities and special needs, to promote their social, emotional, and cognitive development.
Responsibilities
- Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment for all students.
- Assess and monitor children's progress in various developmental areas, including math and literacy skills.
- Collaborate with teachers to provide a loving place for children to thrive.
- Foster positive relationships with children to encourage their social skills and emotional growth.
- Participate and contribute innovative ideas for enhancing the preschool program.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming classroom space that promotes exploration and learning.
Requirements
- Be available for on-call shifts between the hours of 7:30am-5:00pm
- Experience working with children ages 3-5
- Washington Early Childhood Education Initial Certificate or equivalent (Child Development Associate or 12 aligned credit hours) OR willingness to acquire this certification immediately upon hire
- Ability to meet Washington state requirements for teacher assistants before start date, including passing background checks and requisite trainings
- Childcare Basics course
- CPR/First Aid
- Bloodborne Pathogen training
- Food Handler's card
- Negative TB Test
- MMR Vaccine
- Age 18 with high school diploma or GED
- Experience working across lines of difference and strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. frequently and up to 50 lbs. occasionally to care for young children safely
- Consistently attend work as scheduled to ensure proper staff-to-child classroom ratios
- Assume postures at low levels (e.g. kneeling, stooping, bending, and sitting on the floor) as needed to communicate effectively with children
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Two or more years of experience as an assistant teacher or aide in a preschool
- Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education or two years of post-secondary coursework in Early Childhood Education
- Experience with Montessori pedagogy
- Experience with children with special needs
