Summary:
At Harcros Chemicals Inc., an employee-owned company with a rich legacy in specialty chemical manufacturing and distribution, we're continuously expanding. With 2 manufacturing plants and 27 distribution facilities across 20 states, we're seeking a dedicated Boiler Operator professional to join our team. Reporting to the Site Manager, this role will be for operating natural gas fired boilers to generate steam for heating buildings, industrial processes and tank farms. The Boiler Operator will also maintain utility equipment and perform various tasks as required.
This position will be the 2nd shift from Sunday to Thursday: 2:30pm to 11:00pm with a starting rate of $26.00.
Primary Responsibilities & Duties:
- Monitors boiler performance using pressure, temperature, and draft meters, ensuring automatic combustion control systems, feed water regulators, and burners are functioning correctly.
- Adjusts valves and control settings to regulate fuel feed, draft openings, water levels, and steam pressure.
- Ability to start, stop, operate boilers in a safe and efficient manner and take them on and offline.
- Operate and maintain water softeners and brine tank systems.
- Operate and maintain deaerator tank and boiler make up water pumps.
- Monitor, test and maintain boiler plant water chemistry.
- Monitor, test and maintain plant cooling tower water chemistry.
- Ability to operate a computer and enter information into the daily log.
- Perform preventative maintenance duties.
- Ability to respond to occasional call backs if boiler needs restarted such as when there is a power utility failure.
- Follow Company Policies and Procedures.
- Other Duties may be assigned.
- Job duties may also result in:
- Generate, handle, and/or inspect hazardous waste and hazardous waste storage.
- Respond or manage hazardous waste spills and incidents based on the site’s emergency action or contingency plan.
- Prepare and manage hazardous waste records such as manifests, inspection logs, waste determination and other reports.
Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Background in mechanical experience is preferred.
- Experience in an industrial environment is a plus.
- And/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
The Required Skills We Are Looking For:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or video presentation.
- Problem-solving skills in standardized situations.
- Proficiency in basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).

Physical Capabilities & Requirements:
- Ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle objects or tools, reach with arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Work Environment:
- Frequent work near moving mechanical parts.
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasional work in high, precarious places.
- Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and toxic/caustic chemicals.
- Noise level is moderate to loud.
