Harcum College, in Bryn Mawr, PA, a leader among the nation's independent associate degree colleges, has an immediate opening for a Career & Transfer Services Advisor.
DEPARTMENT MISSION :
The mission of the Office of Career & Transfer Services is to support students and alumni and help them identify and achieve their career and academic goals. This is accomplished by developing and cultivating relationships with students, alumni, faculty, staff, employers, and four-year college partnerships. Through data collection and analysis, the Office of Career and Transfer Services provides outcome reports on the success of its students and alumni to maintain a culture of continuous improvement supported by assessment.
POSITION OVERVIEW :
The Career & Transfer Advisor will guide and support Harcum College students and alumni through transfer planning or career exploration. This is accomplished through one-on-one appointments, career and transfer programming, and use of the College Central career platform. The Advisor will assist with planning, marketing, and presenting career and transfer programming and also collaborate with faculty and staff to develop events specific to academic majors. In partnership with the Career & Transfer Services Director, the Advisor will evaluate the effectiveness of department events and implement improvements based on data collection and career and transfer trends. Additionally, the Advisor will adeptly use, manage, train, and promote the College Central career platform to students, alumni, faculty, staff, and employers.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Meet with students to help them navigate transfer needs / interests
- Meet with students to identify and develop academic and career goals
- Assist students with selecting and applying to four-year colleges and universities
- Assist students with exploring employment opportunities and ensure career readiness
- Support the creation and review of student and alumni resumes, cover letters, and professional portfolios
- Market and co-facilitate career and transfer-related events and workshops
- Serve as a liaison to develop and maintain positive working relationships with employers and transfer professionals
- Foster relationships with faculty and academic Program Directors to increase student engagement in career and transfer services
- Work collaboratively as a member of the Career & Transfer team on event planning, program facilitation, marketing, data collection, and other related tasks
- Understand, manage, and promote the career management system, College Central
- Facilitate student, faculty, staff, and employer training of the College Central platform
- Assess the effectiveness and success of current and future Career & Transfer programs and initiative
- Assess the experience of employers and transfer professionals who interact with our students
- Research and evaluate current and emerging regional and national trends regarding transfer and employment, including through the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE)
- Establish and foster partnerships with employers to participate in job fairs and student-focused presentations
- Deliver classroom presentations on career development and transfer-related topics
- When assigned, serve as the Career & Transfer Services representative at community events
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Career & Transfer Services or Dean of Student Life

WORK ENVIRONMENT :
Work is typically performed in an office environment with a high level of student contact. During peak periods or when required, the Advisor may work extended hours, possibly including evenings and weekends. The Advisor is expected to demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of Harcum students and alumni.
