TITLE: HR Generalist / Payroll and Benefits
REPORTS TO: HR Manager
BASED AT: Harken, Inc., Pewaukee, WI
STATUS: Full Time, 1st shift, Exempt
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Process bi-weekly payroll through ADP for approximately 300 employees and perform any payroll system maintenance and updates
- Administer adjustments to payroll such as garnishments, deductions wage assignments, paid vacation, sick and personal time
- Review time and attendance information for completeness and accuracy support timecard managers with issues and / or questions
- Manage and ensure monthly, quarterly and yearly reports and filings with payroll provider (ADP), including tax liabilities
- Support all regulatory and other filings including: state registrations, 5500 processing, ACA reporting requirements, EEO reporting, 401(k) and ESOP reporting and state, federal and other audit requests.
- Obtain data, analyze, participate in recommendations and process compensation change requests to ensure compliance with established guidelines, policies, and practices
- Complete and submit various annual external compensation surveys
- Perform online timekeeping training for all new hires (ADP’s Workforce Now) and serve as one of the administrators
- Respond to unemployment requests for information
- Respond to employment verifications
- Take responsibility for the full life cycle of the recruiting process from candidate sourcing to onboarding of employees for all non-exempt and some exempt employees
- Review, maintain and update job descriptions for all positions
- Facilitate the offboarding process
- Provide support for: annual performance review process, annual merit cycle, talent management review and succession planning
- Administer employee benefit plans such as health, dental, vision, FSA, HSA, COBRA, life / AD&D, STD, LTD, 401(K) and ESOP, including enrollments, changes, billings, claims and acts as liaison between employees and benefits providers
- Act as the main point of contact for employees regarding benefits, leave and payroll including questions concerning employee leaves (FMLA), 401(k), ESOP and other employee welfare programs. Assist employees with electronic processes and comprehension of benefit plan design.
- Assist in establishing, implementing, enforcing and reviewing employment policies, procedures and reporting in accordance with regulatory requirements and Harken operations. Assist employees and managers with basic interpretation of HR policy and procedures
- Prepare and analyze reports that are necessary to carry out the functions of the department.
- Provide competitive market research data in surveys to aid in establishing pay scales and practices that help recruit and retain our workforce.
- Maintain employee personnel files ensuring accuracy and compliance with legal requirements of record retention.
- Assist in employee relations responsibilities including progressive discipline and terminations.
- Investigate and submit Workers’ Compensation Claims and tracks OSHA-required data in a timely manner.
- Develop and keep current knowledge of employment, labor, and wage/hour laws to ensure company compliance (EEO/Title VII, ADA, ADEA, COBRA, FMLA, FLSA, HIPAA, ERISA, OSHA, DOL, etc.) by reading publications, attending seminars, and networking. Maintains minimal company exposure to lawsuits.
- Assist with employee communication, feedback and morale by organizing and executing company meetings, employee events and posting of information throughout the facility
- Contributes to team effort by assisting in areas as needed.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or a closely related field or an equivalent in experience
- 3 to 5 years of experience and demonstrated proficiency in payroll, recruitment, compensation and benefits administration
- Must possess excellent organizational, detail orientation, follow through, analytical and problem solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated professionalism
- Ability to quickly change gears and demonstrate flexibility
- Able to effectively work with personnel of varying skill levels and work through challenging situations efficiently
- Able to handle a high volume of information confidentiality
- Ability to use standard office equipment
- Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Microsoft Excel
