Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) — a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York — seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Program Director at the Armory.
The Program Director will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children’s Zone: break the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.
We are seeking a Program Director to lead and manage the day-to-day activities of The Armory. The ideal candidate will be a highly-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented professional with program and/or project management experience, with a background in and intense passion for sports, health, and fitness. This position reports the Senior Director of Health and Wellness.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of progressive experience, preferably in a supervisory role, and an intense passion for sports, health, and fitness
Who you are
- A commitment to the mission and programs of HCZ
- Ideal candidate will have experience managing a large recreation center or fitness facility that offers a variety of programming
- Experience working with youth and adolescent population
- Comfortable working with outside community organizations and contracted program providers
- Must have excellent management and administrative skills
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to issues prevalent in underserved communities of color
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook
- Ability to work flexible hours, as required by the demands of the program
What you’ll do
- Manage all sports programs, both internally and externally
- Develop and organize sports, fitness, and health workshops for program participants
- Supervise Coordinators, Instructors, Coaches, Sports Specialists and other staff
- Serve as the hub for all HCZ programs with limited space for sports and physical activities
- Direct staff to ensure efficient, successful program delivery
- Help develop programs, procedures, and processes where needed (i.e., operations, staffing, and budgets)
- Enforce all policies and procedures to ensure the safety of program participants and staff
- Ensure the facility is always prepared for planned and impromptu site visits and inspections
- Manage and review data, and ensure completion and dissemination of all reports as required
- Ensure programs consistently meet and exceed the goals set where appropriate
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with city agencies, community organizations, schools, and parents
- Foster strong relationships and effective communications with HCZ senior leadership and staff
- Performs other duties as assigned

- Monday – Friday 9am - 5pm
- Flexibility is required
- Some travel is required
