What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engagement Specialist position at Harmony House?
Responsibilities:
- Operate as a member of the Harmony House team, striving at all times to provide quality services to those experiencing homelessness.
- Ensure that all those entering Harmony House are greeted warmly and are signed in for services, as appropriate.
- Develop rapport and relationships with those experiencing homelessness to better direct them to services.
- Develop and maintain an understanding of services available in our CoC, as well as community resources (outreach, meals, etc.) for those experiencing homelessness and poverty. Direct individuals to those resources.
- Oversee shelter activities, such as showers, laundry, and donations. Ensure that items are equitably distributed and inform the Executive Director or Assistant Director when donated items are needed.
- Straighten the shelter lobby and front office daily to ensure it appears neat and inviting.
- Distribute food items to clients in an equitable fashion. Reheat donated food, as needed.
- Ensure proper COVID-19 protocol is being implemented.
- Coordinate client volunteers to assist in the sorting of clothing donations. Ensure that the donation room is open during scheduled hours and maintained in a neat and orderly fashion.
- Maintain a weekly service schedule that is posted for client use.
- Create and hang flyers informing clients of upcoming events at Harmony House and Vanity Fair.
- Order supplies needed for the shelter weekly.
- Sort and distribute mail and messages daily, maintaining a list that is updated weekly.
- Maintain order and calm in the shelter.
- Assist the Director of Development and Community Engagement in creating rapport with volunteers. Assist volunteers as needed.
- Produce weekly hygiene bags and distribute on Tuesdays.
- Communicate emergent client issues with other members of Harmony House staff to best meet needs of clients.
- Attend weekly staff meetings.
- Attend Frontline Lunch Bunch Meetings monthly.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisors.
37.5 hours per week.
Pre-employment drug screen is required. COVID-19 vaccination is required.
