What are the responsibilities and job description for the Support Specialist position at Harmony House?
Description of Duties and Responsibilities
- Transports clients to appropriate service agencies outside of Harmony House according to approved schedule.
- Transports residents to the grocery store as deemed necessary and appropriate.
- Ensures van is kept in good working order, is clean, and is currently licensed and inspected.
- Advocates for services which may include public assistance, food stamps, social security, legal aid, etc.
- Picks up donations and office/shelter supplies as needed.
- Works with case manager and team lead to assist peers in accessing and maintaining permanent housing
- Functions as a role model by assisting peers to understand the purpose of mental health and substance abuse recovery models
- Demonstrates competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills
- Assists peers/participants to regain independence within the community and mastery over their own healing and recovery process
- Assists participants in articulating personal goals for recovery through the use of one-to-one and group sessions
- Assists participants in working with their Case Manager or treatment team in determining the steps s/he needs to take in order to achieve these goals and self-directed recovery
- Supports participants’ vocational choices and assists them in choosing a job that matches their strengths, overcoming job-related anxiety by reviewing job applications, and providing interview tips
- Assists participants in building social skills in the community that will enhance housing retention
Qualifications for Position
High school diploma or GED; Valid Driver’s License; Preference will be given to those who have progressed in their own recovery and have a minimum of one year of mental health or substance abuse recovery and are actively involved in recovery activities. Must be able to lift 50 lbs and walk up and down stairs carrying food boxes and other donated items.

Supervisory Relationships: There are no supervisory responsibilities for this position.

Amount of Travel: Local travel required
Salary and Benefits: $12.00/hour/37.5 hours per week; medical, vision, and dental insurance available; paid sick and annual leave; paid parental leave.
