COUNSELOR

            

Primary Function:       Provide counseling, mental health and risk assessments, and treatment recommendations to promote individualized client recovery.


Supervision:               Supervised by Counseling Manager



Essential Functions:

  1. Complete clinical assessments, interpretive summaries, and care planning based on assessment of individual needs, and complete diagnosis based on DSM-5 criteria. 
  2. Coordinate client care with medical staff to address initial, ongoing, and continuing care needs.
  3. Complete bio-psycho-social assessments in a timely manner, providing recommendations for treatment.
  4. Initiate and maintain effective communication with client referents and family members to effectively develop treatment plans and the transition of care.
  5. Support Case Management in coordination of care, discharge planning, and referral with client and families/referents.
  6. As needed, provide services to clients in various programs (Detox, Lodge, Swickard).
  7. Conduct individual, group, and family counseling sessions which address the individual needs of the client, including relapse prevention.
  8. Complete treatment plan reviews using the ASAM dimensions and attend reviews as scheduled.
  9. Prepare and complete all necessary documentation and record keeping in a timely and accurate manner according to state and federal guidelines.
  10. Facilitate group sessions targeting mental health issues concurrent with substance use disorders.
  11. Maintain knowledge and adhere to Harmony policies and procedures.
  12. Participate as an effective and contributing member of the counseling team.
  13. Demonstrate knowledge and competency related to confidentiality and ethical standards of the counseling profession.
  14. Attend continuing education classes when possible and apply knowledge learned to work at Harmony. Share knowledge with co-workers.
  15. Complete Counselor on Call responsibilities as assigned.
  16. Adheres to confidentiality laws including 42CFR Part 2, HIPAA and HITECH as well as all Harmony policies and procedures.



Minimum Requirements:

  1. Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, or Family Therapy.
  2. Certified Addiction Specialist (ACC) or NAADAC equivalent is preferred.
  3. Counseling licensure (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, LAC, or equivalent) is required.
  4. Two (2) years of previous experience working in counseling or mental health services is preferred.

e.    If recovering from a substance use disorder, one year of continuous sobriety is required.

  1. Must have valid Colorado driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record if driving Harmony vehicle or driving for Harmony business.


 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

a.    Ability to establish a therapeutic alliance with clients.

b.    Working knowledge of DSM-5 criteria.

c.     Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of addiction and human behavior.

d.    Skilled in one or more evidence-based therapeutic modalities including but not limited to: cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and mindfulness-based practices.

e.    Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal formats.

f.      Proven advanced skills in facilitating individual/group counseling with concurrent mental health issues.

g.    Familiarity with 12 step facilitation.

h.    Proven ability to teach and motivate people.

i.      Personal maturity reflected by sound judgment and decision-making.

j.      Ability to relate with detachment and empathy to clients and families.

k.     Skilled in working effectively with colleagues across the organization.

l.      Demonstrated awareness of scope of expertise and ethical requirements to refer mental health issues to appropriate staff or external resources.

m.   CPR and First Aid certified.

n.    Authentic commitment to Harmony’s mission and vision, actively working to further organizational objectives.


Salary : $72,000 - $76,000
