JOB GOAL
Provides students with research-based learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth in small group settings
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
o Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
o Minimum two years of experience supporting K-2 ELAR and/or ESL classrooms (preferred)
o Texas Teacher certificate appropriate for level and subject area of assignment (preferred)
o ESL/Bilingual certification (preferred)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Understands and supports the mission, vision and values of Harmony Public Schools.
o Creates a small-group environment that is conducive to learning, includes research-based best practices, and is
appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
o Plans small group lessons that, as much as possible, meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students
o Provides focused, targeted, and systematic second language acquisition instruction and progress reports to the identified
Emergent bilingual students/English learners
o Develops and implements instructional scaffolds for students based on prior analysis of a lesson’s text complexity and
formative assessment
o In collaboration with the classroom ELAR teacher, analyzes formative/summative assessment data to plan and makes
informed adjustments to lesson preparation and instruction for small groups
o Evaluates student work samples against established criteria to identify and analyze trends and plan instructional next
steps
o Supports students insetting goals and maintains standards of classroom behavior
o Analyzes year-long curriculum to anticipate student struggles and maps prerequisite knowledge for a unit of instruction
o Refers students for evaluation by district specialists as required
o Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location
provided, and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved
o Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect the students, equipment, materials, and facilities
o Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law , district policy, and administrative regulations
o Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life, conduct, and equity
o Makes provisions for being available to the students and to the parents for education-related purposes when required
o Maintains and improves professional competence
o Participates in district and campus staff development
o Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees
o Maintains a professional relationship with colleagues
o Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students, parents, and community members
o Performs other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
o Knowledge of reading curriculum and instruction
o Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external
to the district.
o Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internal and external to the district.
o Ability to use effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
o Ability to use computer including software, database used by the district, spreadsheet and word processing software,
calculator, copy machine and telephone.
o Ability to analyze data.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
o Light Work: may require the occasional light lifting.
o Nights and weekend activities will be occasionally required.
o Position is in classroom setting and intermittent speaking, standing, walking and writing.
o Moderate travel is required.
Salary : $57,500
