POSITION SUMMARY
An employee in this position is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of county facilities related to painting. Prepares surfaces and applies paint, varnish, stain, and coatings to help beautify and protect exterior and interior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures to preserve county facilities.
Hiring Range: $37,410.00 to $43,489.00
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
- Prepares and cleans surfaces by use of sandpaper, burners, scrapers, sanding machines, dusters and paint removers
- Mixes and matches paints and allied products. Applies paint to interior and exterior of buildings, furniture and other structures by brush, roller, or spray equipment. Applies waterproof materials to exterior of buildings
- Covering exposed floors, objects, and surfaces
- Cleans painting equipment and tools
- Maintain an inventory of supplies
- Knowledge of safety hazards and rules
- Ability to climb and work from a ladder at some distance above the ground (12-16 feet from ground level)
- Pressure washing of exterior buildings and surfaces
- Other duties as required by supervisor
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of trade skills.
- Knowledge of safety regulations, occupational hazards, and related safety precautions in the work.
- Knowledge of painting trade practices and skills.
- Skill in using and caring of tools.
- Ability to read and interpret blue prints and plans.
- Ability to maintain records of work activities.
- Ability to climb and work on ladders.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to give clear oral instructions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and County clients.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
- High school diploma preferably supplemented by course work in trade skills;
- One (1) year of work experience Or
- Equivalent education and/or experience.
- Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to perform medium work frequently exerting up to 30 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects; and occasionally requiring to exert up to 50 pounds of force to move objects. This work also involves the physical abilities of balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels, discriminating among sounds, kneeling, lifting, having manual dexterity, using mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, performing repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, expressing ideas by the spoken word, shouting to be heard above ambient noise, and walking. An incumbent must also possess the visual acuity to analyze data, work with color or depth perceptions, determine accuracy or observe facility work, operate computers, and operate machines such as drills and power saws, to perform skilled trade tasks; and to keep and maintain various records.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The employee is subject to hazards at work including: exposure to vibrations; proximity to moving mechanical parts and electrical current; working in high places; and exposure to chemicals, fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and oils. The employee is also subject to working in close quarters such as crawl spaces and small rooms. Requires performing plumbing tasks which subjects the employee to compliance with OSHA standards on blood borne pathogens. Works on-call as scheduled.
