CONTROLLER
POSITION SUMMARY
The Controller is responsible for the overall accounting function of the organization and reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The Controller will develop tools and systems to provide critical financial and operational information to the CEO and make actionable recommendations on both strategy and operations. The Controller will ensure that long-term budgetary planning and costs management are in alignment with Harper Ellis Hair Co.’s strategic plan.

OBJECTIVES
Accounting Operations
- Develop and enforce a documented system of GAAP compliant accounting policies and procedures ensuring on-time and accurate reporting
- Monitor and improve accounting operations, financial controls and transaction-processing procedures.
- Ensure that accounts receivable are collected promptly
- Ensure all accounts payable are paid timely and all reasonable discounts are taken on invoices
- Oversee and advise on payroll processing functions
- Ensure that monthly bank and credit card reconciliations are completed
- Ensure that required debt payments (company credit cards, loans, or lines of credit) are paid on a timely basis
- Maintain the company’s chart of accounts
- Coordinate the preparation and compilation of year-end reporting, financial statements, and reconciliations for a certified public accountant (CPA) firm, for tax-return preparation
- Stay abreast new regulatory guidelines by remaining aware of new state and federal regulations, participating in educational opportunities, and reading professional publications
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Monitor financial performance by measuring and analyzing results, initiating corrective action, and minimizing the impact of variances
- Manage cash flow; Delivering margin improvement strategies quarterly
- Design and conduct financial analysis and development of financial models for budgeting and new projects, products, and programs
- Drive key projects to improve financial management (for example, migration to accrual accounting, QBO platform)
Management
- Help the executive team design the finance and accounting organization
- Recruit and develop key accounting and finance staff
- Manage outsourced functions
COMPETENCIES
- Strong working knowledge of how to handle both the accounting and forecasting of numerous products and programs on an accrual basis
- Works well to prioritize multiple projects and deadlines
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams

- Mastery level knowledge of Excel
- Solid GAAP and financial-reporting, technical skills
- Proficiency with QuickBooks
- Working knowledge of taxation and corporate structures
- Process development and implementation
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- CPA required
- 7-years of working experience dealing with finance and accounting.
- Proficiency in QBO
- Previous controller experience preferred
- Previous FP&A experience preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Able to travel as needed
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds
