(CONTRACT) Critical Facilities Maintenance (CFM) Engineer – Data Center Operations (Central Ohio)
An exciting opportunity awaits for a skilled Critical Facilities Maintenance (CFM) Engineer to join a rapidly growing data center in Central Ohio. This role is instrumental in supporting the seamless performance of all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety systems within a high-demand environment, currently supporting over 75MW of critical IT capacity.
Role Overview:
The CFM Engineer plays a key role in ensuring 24/7 operations by executing preventative maintenance, performing repairs, and responding to emergencies. Under the guidance of the Chief Engineer and Facility Manager, the engineer will also handle general facility management responsibilities, including inspections and maintaining operational excellence.
This position will lead small-to-medium scale infrastructure projects from inception to completion. Responsibilities include collaborating with internal teams (engineering, controls, logistics, construction), obtaining quotes, drafting procedures, and overseeing execution—all with a sharp focus on safety, security, and operational integrity.
As the point of contact for vendors and service providers, this role ensures compliance with environmental and safety protocols and guarantees the delivery of high-quality service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on:
- Electrical switchgear
- Uninterruptible power supplies (UPS)
- Transformers, batteries, generators
- Chillers, air handlers
- Fire/life safety equipment
- Oversee and manage vendor relationships, ensuring proper safety compliance
- Execute infrastructure-related projects, coordinating with multidisciplinary internal teams
- Support site growth through new installations and capital project assistance
Basic Qualifications:
- Technical (Military/Trade School) training or 1 years of relevant experience
- At least 1 year of experience in electrical or mechanical trades
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2 years of data center engineering experience
Physical Requirements:
- Walk job sites with uneven terrain
- Work at heights and from ladders
- Regularly lift up to 49 lbs; assist with team lifts over 50 lbs
- Perform physical labor for extended periods
- Bend, reach, stretch, and manipulate tools and small objects
- Work in high-noise environments with appropriate PPE
- Work under raised floors and in tight spaces
Work Schedule:
- Non-exempt (hourly) role
- Bi-weekly rotating shift schedule:
- Week 1: Three 12-hour shifts (36 hours)
- Week 2: Four 12-hour shifts (48 hours)
- Availability for nights, weekends, and holidays required
- On-call participation not required unless scheduled
