Contract Attorneys Justice of the Peace Courts
The District Attorneys Office is looking for attorneys to work on a contract basis handling dockets in the Harris County Justice of the Peace Courts. Contract attorneys may work between 20 and 40 hours per week at an hourly rate of $35.00 to $50.00 per hour, depending on experience. Mileage will be reimbursed and distance of commute will be considered, when possible, in making court assignments.
Job Duties:
- Assigned to cover one or more of the Justice of the Peace Courts
- Handle arraignment, pretrial dockets and trial
- Prepare complaints, charging instruments, review and respond to emails from defendants and defense attorneys
- Other duties in the Justice of the Peace Courts as assigned by the Chief Prosecutor of the Justice of the Peace Court Section.
Qualification and Experience:
Must have a J.D. from an accredited law school and Texas Bar certification. Must be a Texas licensed attorney. Must be able to work independently and ability to manage a demanding work load with sound problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Hours:
Monday through Friday, 20 to 40 hours weekly, typically between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Salary : $35 - $50
