Position Description
What you will do for Harris County Precinct 2:
Under the direction of the parks supervisor and/or Parks Director, the Lifeguard Coordinator will be responsible for the daily coordination of lifeguard scheduling according to state rules and activities programmed. The Coordinator will also provide support and communication to ensure that the lifeguards are well informed and are performing duties accordingly.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain lifeguard schedules. Fills in when necessary.
- Reviews potential lifeguard applications and makes hiring recommendations to County leadership
- Verify certifications of potential candidates. Report any discrepancies or issues immediately.
- Maintain appropriate levels of all supplies and report to park manager to fulfill orders.
- Provides general administrative and clerical support, such as filing, faxing, copying, scanning, printing, emailing, recording-keeping and documentation etc., for parks administration staff, and senior staff as requested, and distributes as required.
- Observe swimming activities and safety of the public to comply with safety guidelines.
- Administers first aid in the event of injury, rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning, and administers CPR and/or artificial respiration, if necessary.

Requirements
Education:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited educational institution.
Experience:
- Three (3) years of lifeguard experience
Certification:
- Open Water Training certification

Must have a valid American Red Cross Lifeguard Training or an equivalent lifeguard certification, along with CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
- If you don't already have these certifications and/or trainings, you'll need to obtain them upon hire
- Knowledge and ability to evaluate water conditions at the beach/ocean to determine any potential dangers or hazards.
- Ability to adjust programs as necessary to ensure the safety of the visitors and other staff.
- Swimming proficiency and comfort in all types of water conditions.
- Ability to judge and evaluate evolving dynamics of individuals participating in aquatic activities to immediately assess their capabilities and threats to their safety.
- Knowledge of on-site protocols, operational procedures, and safety policies.
- Knowledge of methods and techniques for providing on-site emergency medical services.
- Ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information; includes receiving assignments and/or directions from supervisors. Includes the giving of directions, information and/or instructions to others.
- Ability to tactfully and effectively interact with the public and with co-workers.
- Ability to apply principles of emergency medicine and common sense understanding to carry out detailed and involved written or oral instructions; to deal with problems involving variables in or from standardized situations; to make independent judgments in the absence of supervisor.
- Ability to comprehend and interpret received information.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
- Must be able to remain alert and perform rigorous physical activity for long periods of time, with little rest and under adverse weather conditions.
- Must be able to work for sustained periods of exposure to outside atmospheric conditions.
- Must be able to see and hear sufficiently well to identify and rescue troubled swimmers within a designated swimming area.
- Must be able to exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, or in excess of 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Must be able to ascend or descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs or hands and arms.
- Must be able to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching or running on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces, or when in water.
- Must be able to bend downward and forward by bending spine at the waist, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
- Must be able to bend legs at knees to come to rest on knee(s).
- Must be able to bend body downward and forward by bending legs and spine.
- Must be able to move about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
- Must be able to reach, extending hand(s) in any direction.
- Must be able to handle, seize, hold, grasp, turn or otherwise work with hand(s).
- Must be able to finger, pick, pinch or otherwise work primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm.
Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
