What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Assistance Clerk position at Harris County?
The County Clerk's Office is looking for someone who can exhibit excellent customer service, connect customers with the information and documents they seek, demonstrate knowledge on which documents are recorded, and leave customers with a better understanding of our public records.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Contributes to and helps create a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a cooperative and amicable manner with supervisors, coworkers, and members of the public.
- Performs cashiering procedures.
- Performs clerical duties on computer software applications.
- Greets, establishes rapport, identifies customer needs, and provides recommendations to connect customers with the right solutions.
- Researches and locates Harris County Clerk public records as well as educates the general public on how to do so.
- Creates copy orders and distributes pre-ordered copies to fulfill customer requests.
- Processes Substitute Trustee Notices filed/posted in our office.
- Maintains and updates as necessary the Real Property Register of original documents.
- Submits errors found in the indexes for correction.
- Assists in Data Entry Projects and Quality Control for our legacy records.
- Assists the general public via telephone, email, fax, and in person.
- Performs daily functions with minimum supervision.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Assist with Election Duties as assigned when needed.

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited educational institution, and
One (1) year of paid customer service work experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to use standard office equipment, i.e. computer, telephone.
- Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Ability to work overtime as required without prior notification.
