Position Overview:
The Tuberculosis (TB) Elimination Specialist is responsible for monitoring TB patients to ensure they follow their prescribed treatment regimen. Administer Directly Observed Therapy (DOT), where physically or virtually observe patients taking their medication, either through in-person visits or telecom-health methods such as video directly observed therapy (vDOT). This role is vital for ensuring patient adherence, preventing the spread of TB, and reducing the risk of drug resistance.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the clinical team to deliver comprehensive patient care and communicate effectively to ensure optimal patient outcomes by administer anti-tuberculosis medication through either face-to-face Directly Observed Therapy (DOT) or via Telehealth using Video Directly Observed Therapy (vDOT).
Collect and document patient medication compliance, health concerns, and any adverse effects, ensuring accurate and timely updates in electronic medical record (EMR).
Provides TB education, VDOT and DOT trainings to support adherence to treatment.
Accurately maintains daily activity logs, vehicle inspection, and time reporting in accordance with TB Program requirements.
Promptly inform the clinical team of any issues related to treatment adherence, loss of contact with the patient, or changes in the patient status.
Ensures assigned TB Fleet Vehicle maintenance is performed as scheduled and conduct proper vehicle usage in accordance to the Harris County (HC) Driver and Vehicle Safety Program.
Accurately collect bacteriological samples and lab work as directed by the clinical staff.
Completes reports and statistical summaries of patient medication compliance.
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience:
Six (6) months of experience performing clerical office duties in a health care setting (hospital, physician or dental office, Health department, WIC clinic, etc.)
Licenses/Certifications:
Valid TX Driver's License
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Communicates clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment.
Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information.
Capable of exercising independent judgment in planning and implementing daily activities
Ability to administer and read tuberculin skin tests (TST), collect bacteriology and labs.

Position Type, and Typical Hours of Work:
Full Time | Regular
Monday through Friday | 8:00a.m. – 5:00p.m.
Must be willing to work non-traditional work hours for special weekend testing events, and evening mobile events.
Able to travel within Harris County as needed.
Work Environment:
This position operates in a field environment with the community, medical clinic, and standard office environment with standard equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers.
Physical Demands:
This role requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull up to twenty (20) pounds and bending & standing for periods at a time.
