PANEL GLUER AND OPERATOR

Looking for an experienced machine operator to learn Panel Gluing, Sander and Planer operations at Harris Hardwoods, Inc. in Foreston, MN

Position Overview:

The Panel Gluer and Operator is responsible for laying up and aligning wood staves by color to form uniformly colored panels, operating and maintaining the glue clamp carrier equipment to assemble and bond staves into panels, and other associated roles and responsibilities within the process. This role ensures panels meet production specifications while maintaining safety, quality, and efficiency standards.

This role is essential to producing the high-quality, aesthetically uniform panels expected from Harris Hardwoods, Inc., contributing to the company’s reputation for excellence.

Education and Experience:

Both are helpful, and previous experience in a woodworking, manufacturing, or production environment is preferred, however we are willing to fully train where there is a desire and drive to learn. Familiarity with stave layup processes, hydraulic clamping equipment, and glue application is a plus.We will train our company specifics & requirements on the job.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Stave Layup and Alignment: Laying up wood staves by color and grade, ensuring panels are uniformly colored and meet production requirements.
  • Glue Application: Accurately applying glue to stave surfaces, ensuring proper coverage for secure bonding.
  • Clamp Operation: Operating hydraulic clamp carrier machines to press and secure staves together, monitoring clamping pressure and cycle times.
  • Panel Handling: Removing dried panels from clamps, inspecting for quality, and preparing them for subsequent production stages.
  • Quality Assurance: Conducting visual inspections during and after the clamping process to identify defects or inconsistencies.
  • Stacking and Labeling: Neatly stacking completed panels and labeling them appropriately for identification and workflow tracking.
  • Paperwork: Completing production reports and other required paperwork accurately and legibly.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Performing routine checks and basic maintenance as trained on glue clamp carrier machinery to ensure optimal operation. Reporting any issues or malfunctions to the maintenance team.
  • Safety Compliance: Following all workplace safety guidelines, proper handling of glue and operating machinery safely.

Other general duties and requirements:

  • Keeping the work area, machinery, and tools tidy and in proper order.
  • Cross-training when available and assisting in other work areas when needed.
  • The use of protective safety gear and equipment is required.
  • Must be able to walk, squat, stoop, bend, reach, and turn.
  • Physical ability to lift, move, and handle wooden panels and staves - up to 50-75 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain consistent quality standards, especially in color and grain uniformity.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work collaboratively and respectfully with team members.

Qualifications

  • Minimum age requirement: 18 years (for Machine Operation)
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Must be willing to submit to a pre-employment drug test and background check.
