Overview
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Bus Drivers operate school buses that transport students on established routes according to a time schedule, while complying with all traffic regulations. Guidelines and procedures are set forth by the Childcare Department.

Responsibilities
- Drives YMCA vehicle(s) that they are approved to operate safely and professionally.
- Complies with all traffic rules and regulations.
- Performs pre- and post-bus inspection activities to ensure proper operating conditions, adherence to prescribed Department of Transportation standards, and compliance with proper safety standards.
- Provides daily transportation for students to and from destinations, to include field trips and special events.
- Demonstrates proficiency in handling and maneuvering designated vehicle.
- Maintains bus evacuation plan.
- Transports students according to established routes.
- Always monitors daily school bus activities to ensure proper student conduct, and adherence to appropriate disciplinary controls.
- Maintains attendance records, seating charts, disciplinary documentation, and updated student information.
- Maintains safe driver designation and applicable physical and dexterity standards.
- Ensures the safe loading and unloading of students to and from destinations.
- Performs routine cleaning and bus maintenance activities.
- Conducts re-fueling activities, to include maintaining assigned fuel use logs.
- Reports any perceived or potential school bus defects in a time efficient manner to Childcare Office.
- Attends and participates in staff trainings and meetings
- Supports and embodies the core values of the Harrison Family YMCA.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum age of 18.
- Certifications required within 30 days of hire: American Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid; the following training provided by the Y: Appropriate Touch, Child Sexual Abuse Prevention, Managing your Risk of Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens, Aquatics Safety at the Pool, Hazard Communication for Employees, Social Media & Digital, Communications, Safe Lifting, Harassment Prevention, Preventing Member and Guest Slips, Trips, and Falls, Risk Management 101
- Valid NC Driver’s License and/or CDL License.
- Strong leadership and decision-making skills.
- Effective communication and teaching techniques.
