Mechanical Engineer III

HFA has a unique opportunity for an experienced licensed mechanical engineer to be a thought leader and subject matter expert on HVAC Systems.  We seek an individual with knowledge of new design technology and ability to bring ideas to clients and the industry centered around decarbonization.  This is a client facing role.  If you’ve presented at professional organizations, such as ASHRAE, or written White 
Papers on new technology in this area, we would love to hear from you and see samples of your work. 

The subject matter expert will also mentor a team of designers, EIT’s, and engineers. This position will oversee the existing QA/QC Team and provide support to maintain the quality of documentation and will be the Engineer of Record (EOR).  

The client’s work involves prototyping, new building design, building rehabilitation, and capital expenditure programs throughout the US, in a high-volume environment. 

Within the first 30-60 days you’ll understand the client, how they operate, and how your subject matter expertise can offer new ideas. Within this same timeframe, you’ll be tasked with building rapport with the team. 

Job Requirements include but are not limited to:

• Engineer has gained broad experience in multiple project and/or client types, or garnered enough experience in a single client or project type to be seen as a highly knowledgeable in that particular area.
• Engineer has the ability to lead a client/client team (1-5 staff), most project types, or major portions of large project utilizing their experience and education in HVAC and/or plumbing design.
• Engineer should have thorough understanding of energy codes and their impact on building designs. Engineer should have a thorough understanding of Trane Trace, including energy analysis.
• Engineer can work in an independent manner on most project and/or client types with minimal to no oversight by Engineer or Team Lead.
• Engineer should have a thorough knowledge of most HVAC systems, whether simple or complex, as well as the associated controls.
• Engineer should have a thorough knowledge of sewer, gas and water systems and fully understand the engineering related to each.

Job Duties include but are not limited to:

• Engineer should function as Design Lead or Engineer of Record, unless in a strictly technical role for the company.
• Engineer will work in a collaborative environment with Architects and other Engineers to develop construction documents based on a clients' requirements, including most project management and construction administration functions.
• Engineer will be able to perform a high level of quality control of their projects and others, for final review by Engineer of Record.
• Engineer will have direct client contact, unless in a strictly technical role for the company.
• Engineer will establish project budgets and work with team to ensure those projects are financially successful, unless in a strictly technical role for the company.
• Engineer could serve as Engineer of Record, with approval from Director or Executive, on more complex projects.
• Engineer should be licensed in more than 5 states.
• Engineer should be able to write specifications for any project type.
