Job Summary:
The Hatchery Manager oversees all aspects of hatchery operations, managing personnel, eggs, and equipment to ensure smooth and efficient processes. This role is critical in coordinating hatchery activities, maintaining high standards in quality assurance, sanitation, and animal welfare, and ensuring compliance with company policies as well as local, state, and federal regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate hatchery activities, including egg pick-up and deliveries, care, incubation, hatching, grading, vaccination, and the preparation and shipping of chicks.
- Oversee the Quality Assurance/Quality Control program to ensure operational excellence.
- Monitor and manage facility equipment and repairs, addressing maintenance issues promptly.
- Supervise hatchery sanitation to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Stay informed on industry trends and innovations related to hatchery equipment and operations.
- Manage the animal welfare program to ensure ethical treatment and compliance with standards.
- Plan and oversee the hatchery budget, ensuring cost-effective operations.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, animal welfare guidelines, and applicable laws.
- Manage chick care, maintenance, packing, and transfer activities.
- Develop and maintain weekly hatch schedules to provide the proper number of birds to the processing plant.
- Provide direct supervision of both salaried and hourly employees.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Proven hatchery experience in a supervisory or management role.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- In-depth knowledge of hatchery operations.
- Familiarity with Quality Assurance/Quality Control programs and sanitation protocols.
- Ability to manage budgets and oversee facility maintenance.

Work Environment:
- Work is performed in a poultry hatchery facility that includes both indoor and outdoor environments.
- Conditions may involve variable temperatures, high humidity, and exposure to noise.
