Job Summary:
The Student Success Specialist works with students who need support with behavioral and academic needs. The Student Success Specialist incorporates intervention strategies that teach students more appropriate ways to deal with their behaviors and decision-making processes. These strategies include increased self-control, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), restorative practices, problem-solving skills and replacement behavior supports. Students are also provided time for academic assignments, which allows them to stay up with their regular class work. Additionally, the specialist will use available resources,and supports needed to maintain consistency, respect and support for students. The goal of the program is to provide the interventions necessary to have students return to their classrooms with completed assignments, a positive plan of action and acquire new skills to avoid and limit inappropriate behaviors. The specialist must be able to effectively communicate in oral and written format and be able to solve problems. The specialist will be trained in Social and Emotional Learning strategies, Trauma Awareness Care, and Restorative Practices in order to respond in a calm and organized manner with students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide a nurturing, supportive and positive classroom climate that encourages student responsibility, using positive motivation, clear classroom routines, challenging instructional strategies, restorative practices, SEL, and other effective classroom management techniques. Support students who need help with assignments, assist students with gathering information for reports, research or explain assignments, provide assignments obtained from teachers and/or assign academic work packets.
Work with classroom teachers, administrative staff, general school staff, and parents to tailor services for students’ specific needs including, behavioral intervention, parent contact, and individual and group support.
Lead and work with students in activities to promote their physical, mental and social development and their school readiness.
Monitor academic progress and provide support when necessary.
Observe and prevent negative behavior through the use of redirection or other positive strategies.
Check in with students during lunch and other unstructured times throughout the day.
Collect data, like student on task behavior and attendance, along with other measurable elements to ensure the program and students are successful.
Communicate with teachers verbally, by e-mail, or through written correspondence to request student assignments.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Training and Experience:
Associate degree or higher in mental health, crisis management, and/or family systems of support.
Must meet the requirements for the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) at time of hire (Associate’s degree or higher OR 48 semester hours at an institution of higher education OR passed the Work Keys Exam the District-approved assessment).

Two years’ experience working with students ages 12 or higher.
Criminal background check and District fingerprinting required.
